Beijing, July 11 /Xinhua/ — The State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters of China on Saturday activated a level 4 emergency response for floods and typhoons in Shanghai, Jiangsu, Anhui, and Jiangxi provinces in eastern China, as well as in Sichuan province in southwestern China, as Typhoon “Bavi” approaches the eastern coast of the country, according to the Ministry of Emergency Management of China.
Typhoon Bavi, the ninth this year, is expected to hit the coast between Sanmen and Cangnan in Zhejiang Province (East China) early Sunday morning. Forecasts indicate that after making landfall, it will move northwestward, then change direction to a more northerly course.
According to the ministry, at 9:00 AM on Saturday, ‘Bavi’ was located approximately 460 km southeast of the border between Zhejiang and Fujian provinces, situated in eastern China, with the maximum wind speed near the center of the typhoon reaching 42 meters per second.
Recall that earlier on Saturday, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) of China announced a “red” level alert due to heavy rains and extended the “orange” level alert related to Typhoon “Bavi.” -0-
