Tehran, July 10 /Xinhua/ — Former Supreme Leader of Iran Ali Khamenei was buried on Friday in the Imam Reza mausoleum in the northeastern city of Mashhad. This was reported by the official news agency IRNA.
According to the report, A. Khamenei’s eldest son, Mostafa Khamenei, led and conducted the funeral prayers over the body of the former leader and members of his family who died in the same attack.
The funeral procession began at 3:00 PM local time /11:30 AM Greenwich/ on Thursday, with many people participating in the mourning procession to the shrine.
Farewell ceremonies for A. Khamenei began on July 3 in Tehran; many Iranian and foreign high-ranking officials came to say goodbye to the former Supreme Leader of Iran at the main religious complex of Tehran — the Imam Khomeini Mosallah.
Ali Khamenei held the position of Supreme Leader of Iran for almost 37 years. He was killed as a result of an American-Israeli attack on February 28. His son, M. Khamenei, was elected as the new Supreme Leader of Iran in March. –0–
