Moscow, July 9 /Xinhua/ — Russia hopes that the United States will return to the process of resolving the conflict in Ukraine after they have dealt with the situation regarding Iran. This was stated on Thursday during a briefing by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov.
“We hope that after, despite significant complications, the Americans still manage to resolve the issue surrounding Iran, it will be time to resume their efforts on the Ukrainian front,” said D. Peskov.
According to him, Moscow observes a duality in Washington’s position, which provides Kyiv with weapons and military technologies, including a license to produce Patriot surface-to-air missile systems, while at the same time attempting to promote the peace process.
“We have differences in positions, I have already spoken about a certain dualism in the US position: on one hand, they continue to supply weapons, but on the other hand, unlike other countries involved in this conflict, the United States still maintains a commitment and attempts to somehow facilitate the peace process,” noted the Kremlin representative.

Peskov pointed out that the statements of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, about the possible closure of Ukrainian airspace are new; this topic had not been discussed before. “Previously, no one discussed the subject of closing the skies. In any case, it will be about NATO armed forces operating on Ukrainian territory. This is precisely what the special military operation is being carried out against,” emphasized the press secretary of the Russian president.
He called the US judgment that military pressure on Russia would help achieve a peaceful settlement in Ukraine mistaken.
“Rather, we see certain misconceptions in the White House administration, misconceptions regarding the idea that through escalation and military pressure it is possible to promote a peaceful settlement track — this is a mistaken judgment. The intensification of tension, actions in the direction of escalation will in no way contribute to the peace process,” noted D. Peskov.
