Beijing, July 9 /Xinhua/ — The Beijing Meteorological Service on Thursday afternoon issued an “orange” rainstorm warning — the first since the start of the 2026 flood season in the capital.
At the same time, the city implemented a level 2 emergency flood response mode.
According to forecasts, heavy rains are expected throughout the city from 2:00 PM Friday to 8:00 AM Sunday, with torrential downpours possible in the Huairou, Miyun, Pinggu, Shunyi, and Fangshan districts. In some places, precipitation is expected to exceed 70 mm per hour and 150 mm per day.
Residents of the capital are advised, if possible, to avoid going outside, to follow weather forecast updates, and to use public transportation. Enterprises and government institutions should switch to flexible working hours, and schools should suspend in-person classes and extracurricular activities, taking the actual situation into account.
The public is advised to refrain from visiting tourist sites located in mountainous areas or near watercourses, underground commercial facilities, areas prone to geological hazards, as well as to stay away from rivers and canals.
According to the warning, all outdoor events, manufacturing operations, and construction work must be suspended.
