Beijing, July 9 /Xinhua/ — The Ministry of Emergency Management of the PRC, together with the State Fire and Rescue Administration, has dispatched a joint working group to the county-level city of Jinjiang, administratively subordinate to the city of Quanzhou in Fujian Province (East China), to oversee rescue operations and the efforts to eliminate the consequences of the fire at a local shoe factory.
The fire broke out on Thursday at approximately 12:00 at the factory and resulted in casualties, according to the aforementioned ministry.
After receiving the report of the incident, the above-mentioned ministry is maintaining round-the-clock coordination of efforts, calling for all possible measures to be taken to extinguish the fire, carry out search and rescue operations for trapped people, and treat the injured.
The ministry also strongly urged the relevant authorities to identify the cause of the fire and take effective measures to prevent similar incidents.
The local fire and rescue service dispatched 183 personnel and 35 vehicles to the scene. Firefighting efforts are ongoing. -0-
