The forge plant of PJSC “KAMAZ” celebrated its 55th anniversary.

Exactly 55 years ago, on June 30, 1971, the first bucket of soil was taken from the construction site of the future Forging Plant. Soon, production buildings and administrative and household facilities were erected. The modern stage of the enterprise’s development is marked by large-scale technological renewal. For three years now, the Forging Plant has been actively engaged in production digitization. CPC-1 was the first to implement an operational management system for production processes. Sequentially, tasks such as shift-daily assignments, equipment status, personnel occupancy, payroll calculation tools, and operational transportation management were successfully integrated into the information system. Currently, in addition to the MES system, a maintenance management system has been implemented at CPC-1.

“We have tested the forklift management system and received a positive result; now we are moving to another platform: floor transport management will be carried out together with the MES system based on the Yandex.Taxi principle.”, – he said Director of the Forge Plant Igor Malyasyov. – By the end of this year, tasks related to cutting metal blanks in the KRM, forging production in KPK-3, and the manufacture of stamping tooling in SHIK are to be accumulated into a unified information system. Digitalization will also affect the system for the movement of material assets, which will also be linked to the MES system. I can confidently say that we are now very close to creating a digital twin of the Forging Plant. Upon completion of sensor installation, all four production buildings will be integrated into the unified information system. Then, with a single click on the monitor, it will be possible to see the entire technological process of forging manufacturing in real-time and manage it promptly.

The implementation of the project “Modernization of the Forging Plant. Stage 2” is also ongoing, which involves the technical re-equipment of heavy forging production. The project is considered promising and receives government support. As part of this project, space was freed up in KPK-3 for the placement of a new automated forging line based on a press with a force of up to 14,000 tons-force. Currently, massive work is underway — the foundation is being poured (its depth is 12 meters), and this work is expected to be completed by autumn. In parallel, at the Voronezh Heavy Mechanical Press Plant, a manufacturer of forging equipment, a combined press with a capacity of 2,100 tons-force has already been tested and is ready for shipment, and the main forging press is being assembled for testing. Field trials of the stamping process are also being conducted with robots. The first equipment delivery to Naberezhnye Chelny is expected in autumn. The main phase of the project is scheduled for March 2027, when commissioning works will begin.

In addition, in tool production, it is planned to master advanced technologies for restoring tooling using robotic 3D cladding. As part of automation, a robot will be installed this year at stamping line in CPC-3, where the production of ball joint forgings takes place, for the cutting function. The goal is to optimize complex manual labor.
