The application of neural networks for calculating pollutant concentrations in urban environments, the development of models for detecting fraudulent transactions, mathematical modeling of enhanced oil recovery processes, and other projects for students and schoolchildren are presented at the first satellite event of “Technoprom-2026” — the Great Mathematical Workshop, being held for the seventh time.
The Great Mathematical Workshop is an event where teams of students, schoolchildren, and young researchers work on mathematical projects. Teams are invited to solve or make significant progress in solving a research, technological, or methodological problem. Teams are supervised by mentors, and the problems come from clients – representatives of scientific organizations and industrial enterprises. The work consists of two intensive weeks separated by an intermodule period.
The Big Mathematical Workshop is one of the key scientific and educational events of the Mathematical Center in Akademgorodok, organized within the framework of the “Science and Business” initiative of the Decade of Science and Technology with the support of the Government of the Novosibirsk Region.

A large mathematical workshop will take place at four university venues: Novosibirsk (based at NSU), Tomsk (based at TSU, TPU, TGASU, TUSUR, TGPU), Maykop (based at AGU), and Saint Petersburg (based at ITMO).
At the BMM site in Novosibirsk, 200 people from more than 15 cities will participate. The work will be organized within the framework of 24 research projects from 31 research and industrial partners. The school section of BMM will work on 9 projects. 56 schoolchildren will participate in its work. Since 2023, based on the results of work at BMM, it is possible to earn extra points for admission to NSU.
Within the English-language section of the BMM, mixed teams of students from Russia and abroad will work: 20 foreign students from three Chinese universities will participate in the section’s activities.
Most of the projects that will be addressed at the NSU site relate to the ‘Data Analysis’ direction.
Among them is the project “AI in Ecology: Modeling the Spread of Pollution in the Urban Atmosphere Using Physics-Informed Neural Networks,” dedicated to developing a neural network for calculating concentration fields of pollutants in the city. The neural network is intended to act as a solver of impurity transport equations, taking into account meteorological data and emission sources.
Another project, “Development of Biological Generative Models,” is aimed at developing a software package whose ultimate goal is the modeling and development of artificial biological systems, for example, oncolytic viruses or viruses against atherosclerotic vascular changes. The identified biological structures will be synthesized and tested in practical laboratories.
The events of the Great Mathematical Workshop will take place until July 21.
The discussion of the best projects will continue within the framework of the business program of the International Forum of Technological Development “Technoprom-2026.”
