Rome, July 8 /Xinhua/ — Two people died as a result of an explosion that occurred Wednesday morning at a fireworks factory in central Italy. This was reported by the Italian newspaper La Repubblica.
An explosion occurred inside a production bunker at the Pirotecnica Mattei factory in the municipality of Borgorose in the province of Rieti. Firefighters pulled the bodies of two victims—a woman and a young man—from the rubble. According to rescuers, two other workers who were at the site were unharmed.
A fire broke out as a result of the explosion, and a large column of smoke rose above the factory. Firefighters, ambulance personnel, and police officers arrived at the scene, cordoned off the area, and began a rescue operation.
The authorities are investigating the cause of the explosion and the circumstances of the incident.
According to La Repubblica, an explosion had already occurred at this facility in July 2023. At that time, three people died while working with pyrotechnic materials. –0–
