Beijing, July 8 /Xinhua/ — China will punish separatist forces advocating for “Taiwan independence” with the full force of the law if they dare to carry out actions that divide the nation or undermine national unity, said Chen Binhua, an official spokesperson of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, on Wednesday.
Chen Binhua made this statement at a press conference in response to a media question about the baseless attacks by the Taiwan authorities on the recently adopted PRC Law on Promoting National Cohesion and Progress.
The law explicitly provides for the application of legal measures to combat illegal actions in the field of national relations, said Chen Binghua, adding that it is based on China’s national conditions, complies with legal principles, and international practices.
According to him, this law represents a fair and necessary step to protect national sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
Noting that the administration of Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has repeatedly subjected the law to groundless attacks and slander, Chen Binhua said their goal is to fabricate justifications for their betrayal of the nation and attempts to divide the country, undermine relations across the Taiwan Strait, and restrict exchanges across the strait.
Chen Binghua said that no matter what tricks the DPP administration employs, they cannot change the fact that both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to one China, nor can they stop the historical trend toward complete reunification of the motherland.
