The VIII All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference “Pre-Master’s Training of Foreign Citizens” was held at the Higher School of International Educational Programs of SPbPU. The event gathered participants from 18 countries: Bangladesh, Benin, Brazil, Vietnam, India, Iran, Cambodia, Cameroon, China, DPRK, Colombia, Mali, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Ecuador.
In addition to SPbPU, the conference was attended by the Patrice Lumumba Russian University of Peoples’ Friendship, Kazan Federal University, Tomsk Polytechnic University, Volgograd State Technical University, and Saint Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design. The wide geographical spread of participants and the representation of key scientific and educational centers of the country confirmed the strong interest in Russian education and the growing authority of Polytech as a center for training foreign nationals.
Conference objectives: presentation of research projects by foreign pre-master’s and pre-doctoral students, exchange of experience between universities, development of academic competencies, and effective integration of foreign students into the Russian scientific community.
The participants presented their scientific research on five key areas: construction and engineering structures, electric power engineering and control systems, information technology and digital data processing, medicine, biotechnology and environmental management, as well as fundamental research.
After the presentations, the jury determined the best reports.
Three participants shared first place:
- Chen Wenyi (China, SPbPU) with the report “Electronic Medical Records Transmission System Based on XML Documents”;
- Pak Chor (DPRK, Saint Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design) with the work “The Influence of Cathodic Current Density on the Quality of Electrochemical Chroming of Gravure Printing Cylinders”;
- Centurion Medeiros Marco Antonio (Brazil, SPbPU) with the research “Magnus Effect. Analytical model of the dynamic lift force of a rotating body in an incompressible gas.”
Experts noted the high level of preparation of the participants, the depth of the presented research, and serious interest in the chosen topics. The students demonstrated not only excellent mastery of the material but also the ability to conduct scientific discussions in Russian.
Summing up the conference, the director of the Higher School of the International Olympiad Program, Viktor Krasnoshchekov, emphasized: The professionalization of pre-master’s students is one of the main tasks of our educational program, unique both in the scope of training in the Russian language and in the content of the core disciplines. The conference is a bright finale, the actual outcome of the program.
The head of the preparatory programs at Volgograd State Technical University, head of the Russian language department Natalia Kharlamova shared: We are participating in the conference for the sixth time with pre-master’s students, and our students are glad to have the opportunity to demonstrate their achievements to students from other universities and to get acquainted with cutting-edge scientific ideas from different countries.
The organizers plan to expand the range of conference participants and include new thematic sections. This approach is part of the strategy for the academic adaptation of future master’s and doctoral students to the Russian scientific environment and strengthening the international authority of SPbPU as one of the leaders in the field of pre-university training of foreign citizens.
