Beijing, July 8 /Xinhua/ — China has allocated more than 36,000 additional emergency relief items in connection with natural disasters in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (GZAR) in southern China, the Ministry of Emergency Management of the PRC announced on Tuesday.
The allocated items, including woven bags and rubber boats, were jointly allocated by the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters of China and the State Administration of Grain and Material Reserves of China.
As part of the emergency supply mechanism involving government agencies and public organizations, about 40,000 additional items were also sent to the GHAR, including food products, lighting equipment, raincoats, waterproof footwear, and moisture-resistant mats. The previously allocated 160,000 items from the central disaster relief fund were delivered to the affected areas.
The State Flood and Drought Control Headquarters of the PRC has extended the Level 2 emergency response to floods in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (XUAR), the State Committee for Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has extended the Level 4 emergency response in XUAR, and the Ministry of Emergency Management of the PRC has extended the national Level 3 emergency response due to potential geological disasters in XUAR.
China has a four-tier emergency response system, with the first level being the most serious.
As of Tuesday evening, 6 people have died and 11 are missing due to floods in the GCHAR caused by heavy rain, local authorities reported.
According to officials at the press conference, torrential rains caused by Typhoon Maysak affected 375,000 residents of the GCAR. A total of 130,000 people have been evacuated from the affected areas. -0-
