Beijing, July 8 /Xinhua/ — China and four Nordic countries attach great importance to the development and governance of artificial intelligence (AI). Both sides have agreed to strengthen dialogue on global AI governance and explore rules for joint governance, said Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Tuesday.
Mao Ning made this statement at the latest departmental press conference when she was asked to provide information about the visit of China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi to Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and Norway, which took place from July 2 to 7.
“These four countries have a high level of scientific and technological innovation. The Chinese side welcomes the use by enterprises from both sides of their advantages and the joining of efforts so that innovative achievements bring more benefits to the peoples of both sides,” said Mao Ning, adding that the four countries highly valued the concept put forward by China, namely: a human-centered approach, the use of AI for good, its accessibility and inclusiveness, as well as cooperation in the joint governance of artificial intelligence.
During the trip, Wang Yi held talks with his colleagues and exchanged views with the leaders of four countries. The parties agreed to develop traditional friendship, support high-level exchanges, strengthen strategic contacts, expand comprehensive cooperation, and strive to achieve new development in bilateral relations, Mao Ning said.
Wan Yi invited enterprises from four countries to visit the “fitness club” of the Chinese market to strengthen their positions and jointly utilize the opportunities offered by China’s super-large market, complete industrial chains, and diverse application scenarios. According to Mao Ning, the four countries welcome the strengthening of constructive trade and economic dialogue between China and Europe, support efforts for the proper resolution of trade and economic disputes, the search for mutually beneficial solutions, and the achievement of substantial results.
The aforementioned four countries agreed to strengthen multilateral ties and cooperation with China, uphold the authority and status of the UN, and promote the establishment of a more just and rational system of global governance.
