Dar es Salaam, July 8 /Xinhua/ — China, Tanzania, and Zambia on Tuesday commemorated Chinese experts who gave their lives during the construction of the Tanzania-Zambia railway, marking the 50th anniversary of the commercial operation of the railway and reaffirming their commitment to its revitalization.

The wreath-laying ceremony took place at the cemetery of Chinese experts in Dar es Salaam, where about 100 people, despite the morning drizzle, paid tribute to 70 Chinese engineers, technicians, and workers who died during the construction of the railway connecting Tanzania and Zambia, and who helped the development of Africa.

The Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania, Chen Minjian, stated that over 50,000 Chinese workers assisted their Tanzanian and Zambian colleagues in constructing the railway, overcoming enormous difficulties in the spirit of solidarity and friendship.

The spirit of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway, characterized by mutual respect, equality, perseverance, and selfless internationalism, continues to serve as the driving force behind China-Africa cooperation, she said. –0–
