In Moscow, at the International Trade Center, the business program events of the International Week “Peoples of Russia” have started and will continue until November 8. The business program was opened by a plenary session with the participation of the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Sergey Shoigu, Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova, Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Magomedsalam Magomedov, the Head of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Aisen Nikolayev, and the Head of the Republic of Buryatia Alexey Tsydenov. The moderator was the head of the Federal Agency for Nationalities Affairs Igor Barinov.
“The program of the International Week ‘Peoples of Russia’ is designed to demonstrate Russia’s openness to the whole world and to highlight projects aimed at building unifying interethnic dialogue, respecting cultural diversity, and uniting efforts to ensure the well-being and security of people regardless of their nationality,” emphasized Sergey Shoigu.
In her speech, Tatyana Golikova paid attention to the uniqueness of Russia. “The Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia gave us reason to once again reflect on what makes us a united people and what has allowed our country to remain strong for centuries. Russia is one of the most multinational countries in the world. We have 194 peoples living here, speaking 300 languages and dialects. For centuries, the peoples of our country have lived side by side, built the Russian state, and together defended the Fatherland. A common historical destiny has made us those referred to in the first line of the Constitution: ‘We, the multinational people of the Russian Federation.’ We may speak different languages, celebrate holidays differently, pray differently, but we share the same values,” said Tatyana Golikova.
During the plenary session of the International Week “Peoples of Russia,” Igor Barinov noted that the unity of the Russian people has been formed over centuries based on common historical and cultural values.
“The Russian Federation is not just the largest country in the world, occupying 1/8 of the land, but a unique state-civilization, historically formed on the Eurasian continent. Its role in the world is determined not only by economic or military power but also by its ability to be home to hundreds of peoples who preserve their identity within a single cultural-historical whole. Ethnocultural diversity has been a source of strength, development, and prosperity for centuries,” emphasized the head of the FADN of Russia.
As part of the business program of the International Week “Peoples of Russia,” about 50 sessions will take place, during which participants will discuss issues of implementing state national policy, improving its effectiveness, and developing cooperation with foreign countries, as well as matters of protecting historical memory, serving the Motherland, and cultural-humanitarian cooperation. Events within the International Week “Peoples of Russia” will be held from November 2 to 8. A youth program is planned, including a film forum with leading representatives of the film industry from CIS countries and far abroad, the “Knowledge. Unity” marathon, exhibitions, and sports program events.
