The Moscow Aviation Center opened its own Aviation Training Center (ATC) five years ago — in September 2021. The Moscow Aviation Center is a unique emergency response organization. Aircraft crews promptly evacuate victims of road traffic accidents, hospitalize patients, and participate in extinguishing large fires.
AUC is a key link in training personnel to ensure the capital’s security, the city utility complex reported. Nearly 200 trainees undergo training there annually: pilots, navigators, onboard engineers, mechanics, operators, aircraft maintenance specialists, and rescuers.
Before the appearance of AUC, specialists from the Moscow Aviation Center had to regularly travel to other regions of Russia for advanced training. For example, emergency rescue training for the Ka-32 helicopter was conducted in Rostov-on-Don, and for the Mi-26 — in Arkhangelsk. The opening of their own center allowed them to train personnel on the institution’s premises without interrupting the specialists’ main tasks.
The creation of the AUC required serious preparation. A teaching staff was formed from 20 of the most experienced employees of the Moscow Aviation Center — all of them underwent pedagogical training at the Moscow State Technical University of Civil Aviation and were authorized to conduct classes. At the same time, training classrooms were equipped, educational programs were developed and approved. The center received a certificate and created a full-fledged training base that meets the requirements of the Federal Aviation Regulations.
Guarding the capital’s skies: how the pilots of the city’s emergency aviation are trained
In the first year, the aviation training center implemented eight programs, and today there are already 23. Over five years, retraining courses have been developed and implemented for flight crews on three types of helicopters in the institution’s fleet: Ka-32 (in two modifications), VK117C-2, and Bell 429. Additionally, retraining of maintenance specialists has been organized for all types of helicopters at the center, including the Mi-26T, in the fields of “Airframe and Engine” and “Aviation and Radio-electronic Equipment.” Thanks to these programs, most of the regular retraining of flight and engineering-technical personnel is now conducted within the institution without interrupting work. Moreover, the center prepares senior duty shift officers for the search and rescue service and staff for providing first aid.
Due to the renewal of the helicopter fleet and staff growth, special attention is given to retraining programs for crews and engineers on new types of aircraft. Special courses are available at the AUC for new employees, including for engineers servicing firefighting and medical helicopters. Pilot and crew retraining consists of three stages: theoretical, simulator, and flight. Over the past two years, 24 crew members and 83 engineers have undergone it.
AUC plans to acquire its own Ka-32 simulator, which will eliminate dependence on external training centers. In addition, programs are planned for studying the human factor, water emergency rescue training, and retraining crews on the Mi-26T helicopter.
