Specialists from the Traffic Management Center (TMC) have developed a project to re-mark an important intersection in the Vnukovo area. It is located 400 meters from the interchange of Kiev Highway with Alexandra Pecherskogo Street and allows passage from the highway towards the villages of Kreksino, Zaitsevskoye, and Minsk Highway.
“In the Vnukovo area, according to the TODC project, an important intersection of Projected Passage No. 7037 near the village of Ankudinovo with the road towards Krekschina and Zaitsevskoye Highway was re-marked. Additional and protected lanes were added, as well as the left-turn pocket was extended, which increased the capacity of the section by 20 percent. We continue to improve the comfort of the capital’s roads under the instructions of Sergey Sobyanin as part of the transport development strategy up to 2030,” said the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry.
Previously, during peak hours, there were delays at the intersection. The turning lanes from the Kyiv and Zaitsev highways quickly filled up, causing traffic going straight from the Krekshin side to move more slowly.
According to the project by TsODD, a protected lane was arranged through re-marking when exiting from the Krekshina side onto Projected Passage No. 7037, the left turn lane towards Krekshina was extended by changing the configuration of the traffic island, and a third lane was added for turning right when heading towards Krekshina.
According to the specialists at the Traffic Management Center, the intersection’s throughput has increased by 20 percent. Thanks to the newly covered lane for lane changes, turns have become safer, and the additional lane has allowed for a more even distribution of traffic flows.
Since 2018, re-striping projects have been implemented in the capital. Every year, specialists from the Traffic Management Center develop about 100 such projects on major roads and key interchanges. Changing road markings allows improving travel conditions without excessive costs or the need for long road closures. Adding lanes through re-striping is carried out faster than traditional road widening, making the program effective in conditions of heavy traffic both in limited urban spaces and on high-speed highways.
This year, re-marking is also planned to improve the exit from Admiral Kornilov Street onto the Kiev Highway toward the Moscow Ring Road — a second lane will be added at its initial section to increase traffic capacity.
