Almost two thousand works of art have become available to students and teachers in library “Moscow Electronic School» (“MESh”). Among them are Russian folk tales, prose by domestic and foreign authors, as well as literary collections from the Russian State Library (RSL), reported the press service of the capital’s Department of Education and Science.

“The ‘MESh’ Library is regularly supplemented with literature so that children can conveniently do their homework and read books in their free time. The electronic library helps educators save time preparing for lessons and quickly find the necessary materials. The system already contains more than 1.8 million units of content: textbooks, fiction, methodological recommendations, video lessons for exam and class preparation, as well as virtual laboratories where experiments can be conducted without leaving home. Thanks to new books from the RGB collection, students and teachers will get acquainted with the history and culture of Kalmykia, Mordovia, Kyrgyzstan, England, Turkey, Spain, Italy, France, Sweden, and other countries and regions of Russia,” the department’s press service noted.

Among the added folk tales from around the world available in “MESH” are the Swedish books “Rowan” and “Nis, the Good Fellow,” the Turkish works “Pasha the Shepherd” and “Talismans,” the Italian prose “Prince Bul-Bul,” the Spanish book “The Birds of Countess Morales,” the French work “The Pink Bird,” and the English tale “The Reed Cap.” From Stepan Anikin’s collection “Mordovian Folk Tales,” the library has published “The Clay Doll,” “The Twelve Brothers,” “The Good Brother and the Evil Sister,” “United Cattle,” “Who Is the Cunningest,” “The Fox and the Crow,” “The Fox and the Crane,” and “Sabana the Hero.”

In addition to fairy tales, the service has added works from other genres. For example, prose by Isaac Babel from the collections “Red Cavalry” and “Odessa Stories,” including the work “My First Goose,” and “The Story of My Pigeon Loft.” Additionally, in “MESH” schoolchildren can now read tales by Pavel Bazhov — “The Malachite Box” and “The Mistress of the Copper Mountain.” The selection was also supplemented with poems by Konstantin Balmont from the collection “We Will Be Like the Sun” and by Innokenty Annensky from the book “The Cypress Casket.”

“In order for children and educators to receive reliable information quickly and conveniently, we cooperate with the ‘Moscow Electronic School.’ Now the platform features even more works from the ‘Svet’ app collection. Among them, children will find folk tales from around the world. These stories pass down from generation to generation ideas about goodness, justice, and loyalty. Through the fates and actions of the heroes, children learn to understand others’ motives and draw their own conclusions. I am convinced that this is precisely how humanity is nurtured, moral guidelines are formed, and the ability to empathize develops,” noted Vadim Duda, General Director of the Russian State Library.

Materials are available to authorized users in the mobile application “MESH Library” and the web version of the service at website “Moscow Electronic School.”

Earlier this year, personal recommendations for educational materials were added to the “MESH” library. The algorithms analyze each user’s data and select the most relevant content. The system automatically creates collections for upcoming lessons for teachers. Students receive assignments by subject according to the schedule: for example, before a test, the service will show materials for reviewing the topic and practice exercises. For high school students, the system can offer video breakdowns of Unified State Exam tasks, and for sixth graders — a test on the topic of verb conjugation that they are studying.

“Moscow Electronic School” is a joint project of the capital’s departments education and science and information technology. It appeared in 2016. Today, the unified digital educational platform is used by more than 1.2 million students, over 1.8 million parents, and about 70 thousand teachers. Among the main services of “MESH” are the library of educational materials, electronic diary and journal, “Moskvenok,” “Student Portfolio,” “Teacher Portfolio,” and “Olympiads.”
