Specialists the complex of Moscow’s urban economy They are completing the renovation of nine residential buildings, whose facades are decorated with coffers. Such buildings require craftsmen to pay extra attention to detail.
Square and polygonal coffered cells on arches and balconies not only create a recognizable facade relief but also emphasize the building’s grand status. During complex works, specialists restore intricate architectural elements, preserving the unique historical appearance of each object.
House on Lyusinovskaya Street
One of the buildings with caissons is located on Lyusinovskaya Street (house 66). The six-story residential building in the neoclassical style was built in 1925 according to an individual project. At the level of the lower floors, the walls are decorated with rustication. Some window openings are adorned with casings. The main facade is emphasized by portals and pilasters. Crowning and inter-floor cornices run along the entire perimeter of the building. The building is part of a complex of residential houses built for the workers of the “Goznak” factory by architects N.M. Kurochkin and N.A. Alekseev.
The specialists repaired the facade and roof. Special attention was given to preserving the unique historical appearance of the century-old building. They cleaned the exterior walls of accumulated dirt, repaired the plaster layer, and applied antifungal protection.
In addition, it was necessary to carefully restore the architectural elements: to repair the rusticated walls, restore the decorative casings and the coffers of the balcony slabs. Fresh paint in the historic colors “gray linen fiber” and “pastel sand” was applied to the prepared facade surface.
At the end, the craftsmen updated the entrance groups, the plinth, and the balconies. They also replaced the drainage pipes and drip edges. During the roof repair, they restored the damaged rafter system, replaced the battens and the roofing covering. All wooden structures were treated with a fire and bio-protective compound and the attic space was insulated.
Building on Tamozhenny Passage
Another building with coffers, which underwent a major renovation, is located on Tamozhenny Passage (house 1/9). It was built in 1917 according to an individual design. In 1931, under the direction of architect A.T. Mitreiter, the building was rebuilt and became a residential building for workers of the Kirov Tram Depot of the Proletarsky District of Moscow. The facades of the five-story apartment building feature decorative elements, and the balconies are adorned with coffers. Crowning and inter-floor cornices are arranged around the perimeter. The front facade is decorated with a risalit situated in the central part of the building. The residential building was extended later, so its structure and style contain elements of post-constructivism.
Specialists renovated the facade and restored the historical color scheme. The exterior walls of the building were restored using modern technology. The exposed facade surfaces were cleaned and washed, and areas affected by moisture were treated with antifungal compounds, primed, and covered with highly adhesive elastic adhesive mixtures. Architectural elements were also restored: belts and coffers.
At the final stage, specialists applied a layer of decorative plaster and painted the facade with special paint in the colors “red ant,” “red-brown,” and “signal white.”
In addition, the balconies of the building were renovated: new screens were installed and the metal railings were painted. Upon completion of the main set of facade repair works, specialists finished the slopes and replaced the drip edges. The entrance groups were also refurbished.
House in Strelbishchensky Lane
Restoration work is also underway in the building located on Strelbishchensky Lane (house 24). The five-story building was constructed in 1951 according to an individual design in the style of Soviet neoclassicism. Its external corners are rusticated. The spaces between the windows are highlighted with bas-reliefs featuring plant ornaments. The balcony slabs are decorated with coffers and shaped brackets. The building is crowned by a multifaceted cornice with modillions. This building is a vivid example of Soviet architecture. It forms a unified stylistic space together with the neighboring buildings.
A large volume of restoration work was planned for the facade repair. At the first stage, specialists cleaned its surfaces to remove old paint layers and dirt accumulated over many years. Then they repaired damage to the brickwork of the courtyard facade and treated the wet areas with antiseptic. At the second stage, fresh paint was applied to the prepared surface. The building was restored to its historical colors of “natural beige rice” and “creamy white.”
At the end of the main activities, specialists replastered the base of the house, repaired the entrance groups and balconies. After that, they replaced the downspouts and drip edges.
The damaged rafters, battens, and roofing on the building’s roof have been repaired. All wooden structures in the attic were treated with fire and bio protection compound, and a temperature and humidity control system was installed.
In addition, the building’s basement is being renovated and the electrical supply, central heating, wastewater, and cold water supply systems are being replaced.
