Electric buses have started operating on route No. 324 in the northwest of the capital. It connects the Planernaya metro station with the village of Yurovo. This was announced by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry. Maxim Liksutov.
“We continue to develop the network of eco-friendly ground transportation as instructed by Sergey Sobyanin. Six innovative vehicles of Russian manufacture will operate on the new electric bus route on weekdays. Modern technology positively impacts the city’s ecology and makes passengers’ trips even more comfortable,” said Maxim Liksutov.
The new electric bus route passes through the Kurkino and Severnoe Tushino districts, as well as the city district of Khimki.
Since 2018, innovative electric-powered vehicles have been arriving in the capital. Today, the ground electric transport network covers all districts of Moscow. Electric buses are characterized by smooth rides, absence of noise and vibrations, making trips even more comfortable. The main advantage of such transport is the lack of negative impact on the city’s ecology.
On weekdays, passengers make on average more than 1.2 million trips on electric buses, and since 2018 their total number has exceeded 1.1 billion.
New deliveries of equipment and the development of charging infrastructure will allow for the creation of more electric bus routes in Moscow. The order for the production of modern vehicles for the capital supports employment in the regions and stimulates the development of domestic industry.
Electric transport provides a high level of service and meets strict safety standards. Low-floor electric buses are fully adapted for passengers with limited mobility. They are equipped with fold-out ramps and driver call buttons. If necessary, the driver will assist with boarding and alighting.
Bicycles, strollers, and large luggage can be placed on the accumulation platform. USB ports are provided for charging gadgets, and media screens show current information about nearby stops and possible transfers.
The climate control system allows maintaining an optimal temperature in the car cabin at any time of the year. An air curtain, which activates when the doors are opened, helps to preserve the temperature.
Electric buses have buttons for targeted door opening. For passenger safety, the vehicles are equipped with exterior and interior cameras. Digital validators are located near the doors, allowing convenient payment for the ride.
Since 2022, the city has been supplied with upgraded equipment vehicles. Adaptive lighting in such electric buses changes from a cold to a warm shade at 14:00. The front route indicator has been increased by 18 percent, making the number visible from afar. The electric heater does not negatively impact the environment and maintains an optimal temperature. The range has increased from 40–50 to 80–90 kilometers, while the vehicle’s weight has remained the same.
Today, electric buses operate at 13 Mosgortrans sites. Moscow was the first in Russia to begin building modern fleets for such transport. In 2022, the first electric bus depot in Russia and the largest in Europe, “Krasnaya Pakhra,” opened in the Troitsky and Novomoskovsky Administrative Okrugs (TiNAO). The vehicles went into service on routes in TiNAO.
A year later, the Mitino park was built in the northwest of the capital. After its opening, electric buses started running on routes in 20 districts of Moscow and two nearby towns in the Moscow region. At the end of 2023, the third innovative park — Saltykovka — opened, servicing routes in the east.
In 2025, new generation KamAZ-52222 electric buses were deployed on routes. Thanks to the redesign, the storage area increased by 15 percent. The cabin now includes spaces for carry-on luggage, and the door design has been changed. The climate control system became more efficient, and light strips indicating door opening and closing were installed on the doors. The exterior appearance of the vehicles now better aligns with contemporary trends in global industrial design.
Next-generation electric buses are being developed taking into account the experience of operating earlier models and passenger feedback. Since entering service, these vehicles have traveled more than 10 million kilometers and have proven themselves well. This equipment is maintained at 10 Mosgortrans facilities.
According to the data of Moscow Environmental Monitoring Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, thanks to the replacement of buses with electric buses, Moscow managed to avoid the emission of about 1,300 tons of pollutants and 300,000 tons of carbon dioxide — equivalent to greenhouse gases — into the atmosphere from 2018 to 2025. In 2025 alone, nearly 380 tons of pollutants and about 110,000 tons of carbon dioxide did not enter the air thanks to eco-friendly transport.
