An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.
Five years ago, the service was launched on the mos.ru portal “Removal of unnecessary items” During this time, it has become an integral part of the city’s eco-friendly system for handling old and unwanted items. With its help, Muscovites have sent over 3.8 thousand tons of items unfit for further use for recycling and safe disposal. Today, the service addresses several important tasks at once: it reduces the environmental burden, returns resources to the production cycle, and helps those in need of support.
What is most often taken out of Moscow apartments and where the items end up
Over five years of operation, specialists from organizations partnering with the service have completed more than 130 thousand requests. Most often, city residents get rid of large household appliances. The leader in the number of removed items was refrigerators — about 36 thousand units. In addition, Muscovites sent nearly 35 thousand washing machines for recycling, over 22 thousand gas and electric stoves, as well as more than seven thousand sofas. Small household appliances were removed by specialists more than five thousand times.
The service not only frees city residents from the need to find recycling collection points and transport unwanted items themselves, but also reduces the negative environmental impact on the capital. The items that Muscovites get rid of are taken to specialized facilities where they are dismantled and sorted by material type. After that, valuable resources are sent for recycling for secondary use, while hazardous components such as freon and heavy metals are disposed of in an environmentally safe manner. Thus, the service supports a circular economy, returns resources to production, and fosters a culture of responsible consumption among city residents.
From fridge to shower cabin: how the list of service offerings has expanded
During its operation, the service has significantly expanded the list of items that can be taken out. In the early years, it primarily focused on large household appliances and metal objects. Since 2022, users have been able to recycle furniture and electronics with its help, and starting in 2024 — shower cabins, acrylic bathtubs, and sports equipment.
In December 2024, the opportunity appeared to donate unwanted but still usable clothes and shoes. They are taken for free to special warehouses where the items undergo sorting and disinfection. Then these items are delivered to social platforms — where they find new owners. Since the end of 2024, users have transferred nearly 295 tons of clothes and shoes in this way.
The service is most often used by families with children. They primarily sell women’s and children’s clothing, which remains in good condition but is no longer needed. Requests are most active during season changes, when city residents sort through their wardrobes.
Today, with the help of the service, Muscovites can also dispose of large and small household appliances, windows, pianos, office equipment, electronics, waste paper, and much more. In addition, the service allows for the free removal of cars and motorcycles. You can view the full list of items at link.

How to prepare items for transportation

Wardrobe items suitable for further use are taken away when the total volume reaches four large bags or boxes, or eight standard bags. Large-sized appliances, plumbing equipment, windows, and doors must be dismantled before the specialists arrive.
When disconnecting a washing machine or dishwasher, it is important to install a plug on the drain pipe. This can be done independently or with the help of a specialized organization, including the management company. Gas stoves and equipment must be disconnected only by certified specialists. For this, you can contact JSC “Mosgaz”.
In the case of exporting a car or motorcycle, its owner should prepare their passport, as well as the vehicle passport and the vehicle registration certificate. These documents will need to be presented before loading the vehicle onto the tow truck.
