Only 65 years ago, a person saw Earth from space for the first time, and today almost everyone knows about space technologies. From October 9 to 11, more than 19 million people, both online and offline, discussed issues of cosmic scale at the International Festival “SCIENCE 0+”.

In honor of Yuri Gagarin’s flight, this year’s festival is dedicated to the Universe: both the cosmic and the inner one.

Is it true that “if the stars are lit, it means someone needs it”? How does light affect the body and why do we become still when looking at the night sky? Leading Russian scientists introduced those interested to modern space technologies, the connection of space with other sciences and everyday life in more than 300 lectures of the Grand Space Lecture Hall.

One of the speakers was Vladimir Kutkov, a specialist at the Center for Space Research, Unmanned and Radio-Electronic Technologies of the State University of Management.

A young scientist explained how the space race gave the world modern computing technology, demonstrated engineering inventions of the past, and the incredible possibilities that science offers to space exploration today.

Listeners examined the onboard computers of Soviet and American spacecraft, learned how the support for the Apollo lunar module was optimized, and why incidents on Apollo 1 and Soyuz 1 forever changed the approach to the reliability of space technology.

After that, the speaker moved on to modern digital technologies and informed the guests of the meeting that rockets are now printed on a 3D printer. As an example, Vladimir Kutkov cited the developments of the companies Relativity Space and LEAP 71, which, thanks to the use of digital technologies, have shortened the path from idea to finished product several times over. Computer modeling, digital twins, artificial intelligence, and additive manufacturing have already become an integral part of spacecraft design.

At the end of the meeting, the expert once again emphasized that space is not a vacuum to be conquered; it itself relentlessly drives science and technology forward.

It should be noted that the International Festival “SCIENCE 0+” is the largest educational project in the world and one of the key events of the Decade of Science and Technology in the Russian Federation. Scientists from the State University of Management participate in it annually, contributing to the popularization of science among youth.
