An exhibition dedicated to Russian-French cultural relations of the 19th–20th centuries will open on October 16 at Alexander Solzhenitsyn House of the Russian Diaspora, subordinate to the capital’s Department of Culture. The exhibition will reveal the history of mutual creative influence between the two countries and show how Paris appeared in the works of Russian artists.

Among the exhibits are works by Apollinary Vasnetsov, Konstantin Korovin, Ivan Kramskoi, Konstantin Makovsky, and Ilya Repin. The exhibition will showcase works from the collections of the Alexander Solzhenitsyn House of the Russian Abroad, the State Tretyakov Gallery, the collection of Sergey and Natalia Podstanitsky, as well as other private collections related to the history of the Russian presence in Paris.

At the exhibition, you can see how French artists created portraits of the Russian nobility, while masters from Russia mastered the artistic techniques of their French colleagues.

One of the central exhibits is Konstantin Korovin’s painting “Paris. Boulevard des Capucines” (1911) from the Tretyakov Gallery collection, which became part of the “Paris Lights” series. The exhibition also features canvases where Parisian streets, boulevards, palaces, and cathedrals serve as a backdrop for scenes from the life of the Russian community – from Cossack horses bathing in the Seine to high-society balls and the atmosphere of artist studios.

The exhibition showcases the contribution of Russians to the social life of Paris — to the fashionable salons, diplomatic circles, fashion houses, and art studios.

To visit the exhibition, it is necessary to purchase ticket.
