The third fair of handmade works “Dobry Market” took place in the capital. This year it lasted two days, and the masters’ proceeds amounted to over 720 thousand rubles. More than two thousand items united under the single brand “Made in Moscow Longevity“».”
“‘Dobry Market’ is a platform where masters from ‘Moscow Longevity’ can sell their products. For us, it is part of the work on developing active longevity and the ‘silver’ economy. And here, creativity is not the only important aspect: participants make the first practical step toward earning income from their favorite activity by mastering self-employment. Such events also change perceptions of the older generation: Muscovites over 55 appear as active, economically independent people. And the masters’ club helps this direction to develop and receive support in acquiring new knowledge,” shared the deputy head of the Moscow Department of Labor and Social Protection of the Population.
Visitors to the fair could purchase knitted and textile toys, jewelry made from beads, foamiran, and natural stones, woven and leather bags. At the improvised booths, embroidery and macramé stood side by side with patchwork quilting and Roman mosaic, decoupage and painting, clay works, and items made using wood carving techniques.
Thus, project participant Galina Kikot has been a member of the “Moscow Longevity” masters club for two years, and it was there that she learned to make cotton toys. At the fair, the craftswoman presented cotton Christmas trees and interior items. Galina Kikot admits that she wants to delight people with her works and hear kind feedback from visitors. The Muscovite has been participating in the fair for the second year and sees how many diverse projects are represented here. Galina is sure that such events are a way not only to showcase one’s creativity but also to earn extra income. This year, the craftswoman’s works were again in good demand — a great incentive to keep developing.
Original embroidery on accessories was presented by Tamara Akopova, epoxy resin jewelry by Liana Zaleeva, and fabric painting by Natalia Kopotceva. In total, nearly 70 participants of “Moscow Longevity” exhibited their products at the event, not only creating unique items but also interested in turning their favorite hobbies into sources of income.
Expert support on this issue is provided by specialists from the “Moscow Longevity” project and Sber. Thus, before the event, an educational meeting was held for members of the masters’ club, during which they explained how to register as self-employed and work under this status. Specialists explained that starting your own business and turning a hobby into a business is possible at any age.
“Many people know how to do something truly good: knitting, baking, growing flowers, and you can calmly and officially earn money from this. Registering as self-employed is simple—it takes just a few minutes. The tax ranges from four to six percent of the income earned. Upon registration, a tax deduction of 10,000 rubles is provided, which will reduce the expenses even further. The pension is retained, and all calculations and reports are handled by the bank. The person only has to engage in their favorite activity,” said Alexander Ryabov, an expert in working with the self-employed.
Visitors to the fair had the opportunity to personally communicate with the creators of the items and find special gifts among the variety of works for themselves and their loved ones. Almost all the presented handmade products were purchased, which confirms the high interest in the manual labor of the older generation.
The event took place on Kutuzovsky Prospekt and in Oruzheyny Pereulok. It was organized by representatives of the “Moscow Longevity” project together with partners.
You can learn to create unique handmade items at any age, even if a person has never done it before. In the “Moscow Longevity” project, groups with professional instructors are available, where you can master both classic types of handicrafts — sewing and knitting, as well as more unusual ones: ribbon embroidery, sculpture making, wood carving, and much more.
In addition, creative city residents can form handicraft clubs directly in Moscow Longevity Centers. Here ideas are born through joint efforts: participants communicate and support each other, hone skills, share experiences, and bring the boldest ideas to life.
