Specialists Moscow’s urban utilities complex have begun preparing 14 fountains on the Central Alley of VDNH for the winter period. This was reported by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Housing and Communal Services and Improvement Petr Biryukov.
“The fountain season in the capital ended on October 1, after which preparations for winter maintenance began. Today, the corresponding work started on 14 fountains located on the Central Alley of VDNH. These are complex architectural and artistic structures with many decorative elements that require careful upkeep,” noted Petr Biryukov.
The preservation of fountains includes a whole range of activities. At the first stage, water is drained from the system, after which the basins are thoroughly washed using special means. Then the pipelines are blown through to remove the remaining water, filters are cleaned, underwater lighting elements and jet-forming equipment are dismantled.
A team of municipal workers was involved in the fountain cleaning work. In addition, a street washing vehicle was deployed.
During the winter period, the technical condition of fountains, structures in underground collectors, as well as hydraulic systems and pumping equipment will be inspected.
In 2018–2019, the fountains at VDNKh, federal cultural heritage sites, were restored: 14 fountains on the Central Alley and the famous fountains “Golden Ear,” “Stone Flower,” and “Friendship of Peoples.” They were returned to their historical appearance, and their engineering systems were completely renewed.
