Five electric buses of the A5 generation have started operating on route No. 847 in the Northern Administrative District. This was reported by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry. Maxim Liksutov.
“By order of Sergey Sobyanin, we continue to expand the network of eco-friendly routes. On the new route, five of the most modern A5 generation electric buses from the 2026 batch will operate. They are charged from innovative charging stations with inverted-type pantographs,” noted Maksim Liksutov.
Route No. 847 passes through the Begovoy and Khoroshevsky districts, near educational and medical institutions, including the health cluster of Botkin Hospital.
Eco-friendly transport
Since 2018, innovative electric-powered vehicles have been arriving in the capital. Electric buses feature smooth rides, no noise or vibrations, making trips even more comfortable. The main advantage of such transport is the lack of negative impact on the city’s environment.
Today, there are 3.1 thousand electric buses in Moscow. They operate on more than 310 routes across all districts of the capital. On weekdays, passengers make an average of over 1.2 million trips on them, and since 2018, the total number has exceeded 1.1 billion.
New equipment deliveries and the development of charging infrastructure will enable the creation of more electric bus routes in Moscow. The order for the production of modern vehicles for the capital supports employment in the regions and stimulates the development of domestic industry.
Low-floor electric buses are fully adapted for passengers with limited mobility. They are equipped with folding ramps and driver call buttons. If necessary, the driver will assist in entering and exiting the cabin.
Bicycles, strollers, and large luggage can be placed in the storage area. USB ports are provided for charging gadgets, and media screens display up-to-date information about the nearest stops and possible transfers.
The climate control system allows maintaining the optimal temperature inside the car throughout the year. An air curtain helps preserve the temperature by activating when the doors are opened.
The electric buses have buttons for selective door opening. For passenger safety, the vehicles are equipped with external and internal video cameras. Near the doors, there are digital validators through which you can pay for your ride in a convenient way.
In 2025, new generation KamAZ-52222 electric buses entered service. Thanks to the redesign, the storage area has increased by 15 percent. The cabin now includes space for hand luggage, and the door design has been changed. The climate system has become more efficient, and light strips indicating door opening and closing have been installed on the doors. The appearance of the vehicles now better aligns with modern trends in global industrial design.
New generation electric buses are designed taking into account the operational experience of earlier models and passenger feedback. This equipment is serviced at 13 Mosgortrans sites.
According to the data of MosEcoMonitoring of the capital Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, thanks to the replacement of buses with electric buses in 2018–2025, Moscow managed to avoid the emission of about 1,300 tons of pollutants and 300 thousand tons of carbon dioxide — equivalent to greenhouse gases. In 2025 alone, nearly 380 tons of pollutants and 110 thousand tons of carbon dioxide were prevented from entering the air due to environmentally friendly transport.
The capital is developing ground urban transport. Comfortable and safe vehicles deliver passengers to rail backbone stations as well as to important social, cultural, sports facilities, and points of attraction.
