For students of the third to sixth grades of the capital’s schools, the project “Young Olympiad League” will begin operations. It will unite almost 10,000 kids interested in mathematics and natural sciences. This was announced by Anastasia Rakova, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Social Development.
“In Moscow, we pay great attention to mathematical and natural science directions of education. Mathematics and exact sciences play a key role in shaping the mind, logic, and cognitive flexibility, helping to develop analytical skills and train memory. The earlier a child tries themselves in these disciplines, the sooner their abilities can be noticed and their interest supported. This approach allows us to gradually prepare talented children for high results in competitions. A new stage in this work is the project ‘Young Olympiad League,’ which we are launching for children in grades three through six. More than 40 schools will open special clubs, which will allow developing students’ potential from lower grades. Program participants will regularly solve problems in an interactive format, conduct practical experiments, listen to lectures, attend excursions, and participate in scientific festivals. Nearly 10,000 children will have the opportunity to take part. At the end of the year, fifth and sixth graders who show the best results will be invited to free summer offsite mathematics and natural science sessions at the Center for Pedagogical Excellence.””There, the coaches of the national teams, winners and prize-winners of the final stage of the All-Russian Schoolchildren Olympiad, will work with the guys,” Anastasia Rakova said.
To join the project, school students need to undergo diagnostics. The first session will take place from October 5 to November 13 in “Moscow Electronic School”. If a child does not pass the selection, they will be able to retake the testing with updated tasks. This opportunity is provided once every one and a half months. Winners and prize-winners of the previous season of the Olympiad “Ready for Life in a Smart City!” are admitted to the project without selection trials.

Participants of the project can expect classic and non-standard math problems, strategic games with puzzles and creative tasks, as well as tournaments in the format of team quizzes and relays. In natural science classes, students will listen to lectures and complete assignments on the environment, biology, geography, and astronomy. Additionally, scientific festivals, seasonal themed celebrations, and museum excursions will be organized for them.
Participants in both categories will receive points for completing tasks, which can be exchanged for prizes — hoodies, t-shirts, and toys.
In addition, fifth and sixth-grade students who achieve high results will be invited to free summer thematic sessions at the Center for Pedagogical Mastery. There, they will solve high-level complexity tasks, including in a game format. Preparation for Olympiads can continue in the reserve teams: during the school year, seminars, offsite intensives, and online courses will be organized for the students.
