Capital city volunteers will assist in organizing the National Championship of Professional Skills among people with disabilities and health limitations Abilympics. For the second year in a row, it will take place at the exhibition complex ‘Timiryazev Center.’ The competition will run from October 31 to November 3. Those who want to join the team of assistants need to apply on the ‘Mosvolonter’ resource center website.

“Every year, volunteers become an integral part of the championship team. This year, the volunteer corps will include more than 700 people. For the competition participants, their help is an opportunity to quickly navigate the venue, obtain necessary information, and also receive friendly support on days when attention is especially important. For many volunteers, Abilympics 2026 will be a chance to join an important inclusive event and feel connected to a great common cause,” said Alexander Levit, director of the Mosvolonter resource center.

How volunteers help at the championship

During the championship days, volunteers will be among the first people participants, spectators, and guests of “Abilympics” see. They will indicate how to get to the required venue, provide information about the program and competition schedule, and if necessary, guide visitors to the desired location. Special attention will be given to assisting visitors with limited mobility to ensure they can move comfortably around the exhibition center area.

Volunteers will help directly at the competition venues: they will support the organization of cultural, sports, gaming, and exhibition events, and will interact with guests. The volunteers’ organizational headquarters will provide the necessary equipment, distribute water and food, as well as answer questions and support newcomers to ensure everyone is comfortable helping during their shift.

Experienced movement participants will be able to join the rapid response team — it helps solve issues that arise during the day and quickly gets involved in tasks at different areas of the championship if necessary.

Volunteers will accompany foreign participants. For this task, English communication skills are required, which will be tested in an online interview with a volunteer recruiter. You will also need to be willing to assist on-site throughout all days of the event. Assistants must be over 16 years old for this role.

“Every year, the national championship ‘Abilympics’ brings together talented specialists from various parts of Russia. This is not just a professional skills competition, but real stories about the strength of spirit and the search for one’s path. The contests serve as a guide for participants: helping them believe in themselves, find work they love, develop skills, and take the first step in their profession. It is always joyful to see how participants achieve their first successes and boldly build their careers. Just last year, more than 700 of them found jobs in Moscow companies. On this journey, it is very important to feel the support of friends, family, and mentors. Volunteers consistently become such a support for participants at the championship. Every year, hundreds of Moscow residents join the Abilympics volunteer team. This is not just help in organizing, but a sincere contribution and a great heartfelt effort,” noted Elena Krutitskaya, director of the Moscow Regional Center for the Development of the Abilympics Movement and director of the Professional Training Center.

After the championship ends, volunteers will receive letters of appreciation. Information about the credited volunteer hours will appear on the “Mosvolonter” website within two weeks after the tournament concludes.

Accumulated hours can be exchanged for points in the city loyalty program “Million Prizes” in the project “City of Tasks”. They can be used to obtain goods and services from the program’s partners or directed to charity. All options for using points are presented in the rewards catalog of the program website.

How to join the team

Muscovites over 14 years old who already have experience participating in city events can become volunteers for the championship. An advantage in the selection process will be experience interacting with people with disabilities and health limitations.

Volunteer assistance will be required from October 31 to November 2 from 08:00 to 19:30, with two shifts planned. On November 3, volunteers will also be on site in two shifts from 08:00 to 15:00. Detailed information about the start and end of shifts will be provided by the team coordinator. Times may vary depending on the task being performed.

Leaders and team managers will be determined by October 12, and before the start of the championship, they will undergo additional training. Starting October 16, team leaders will begin contacting registered volunteers.

What it means to be part of a team

Some volunteers have already helped at championships in previous years. For example, Lina Taleb joined the championship for the first time in 2025. She served as the volunteer corps manager — responsible for the headquarters volunteers and the rapid response team.

“I was interested to see ‘Abilympics’ from the inside because it is truly a special event — here a very warm atmosphere is created, thanks to which volunteers are even more eager to help others and take care of their comfort. But the most valuable thing I gained during my time at the venues is the acquaintance with amazing people. The team supported each other a lot when it seemed like there was no strength left. We understood what everyone was going through and tried to give our best. I rate this experience a solid ten and am grateful for the trust,” Lina Taleb said.

A special direction of good deeds

Inclusive volunteering is one of the most important areas. Muscovites who join it help people with disabilities participate equally in city projects, and also support those who, despite health impairments, want to do good deeds together with the team.

The “Mosvolonter” Resource Center expands opportunities every year for participants in the inclusive direction to join good deeds. In the city assistants’ headquarters, a comfortable environment is created for everyone, regardless of their physical and psychological characteristics. For people with disabilities, “Mosvolonter” conducts training programs. They help develop communication skills, leadership qualities, and the ability to act effectively in a team.

You can join the inclusive program on the website mosvolonter.ru. More information about volunteers in Moscow is available on the resource center website “Mosvolunteer”, as well as on his page in the social network “VKontakte” and in the messenger “Max”.
