On September 30, the exhibition “Sheremetev Estates: Two Sides of One Life” will open at the Gogol House. It will be dedicated to two estates belonging to the Sheremetev count family — Ostafyevo and Gavrontsy. The exhibition will showcase items from the collections of the State Palace and Park Museum-Reserve “Ostankino and Kuskovo” and the N.V. Gogol House — a memorial museum and scientific library subordinate to the capital To the Department of Culture.

The exhibition will tell how the Sheremetevs combined the intellectual-aesthetic and economic-agricultural aspects of life in their estates. Among the most vivid examples of this approach are Ostafyevo and Gavrontsy. Each estate had its own focus, but they shared a common goal — the preservation of Russia’s historical and cultural heritage.

Outstanding figures of art often gathered in Ostafyevo. Among the famous guests of the estate was Nikolai Gogol. The Gavrontsy were renowned for their successful agriculture. A few versts from them was Dikanka, where the events of Gogol’s stories took place.

The exhibition will feature exhibits from the Gogol House collection dedicated to “Evenings on a Farm Near Dikanka.” This work brought fame to the young writer who had just arrived in the capital. The Ostankino estate collection includes two albums that belonged to the family of Dmitry Sergeyevich Sheremetev. They contain 114 amateur photographs taken and signed by the estate’s residents themselves in 1904.

The exhibition can be visited until December 13 via tickets to the museum.
