In the Magadan region, at a meeting of the Far Eastern Federal District Council held with the participation of regional heads under the leadership of the Deputy Prime Minister – Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District Yury Trutnev, the results of the XI Eastern Economic Forum and the expansion of the VEF-2027 format and the “Far East Street” exhibition were discussed.
“The Eastern Economic Forum has taken place. We traditionally review its results at the district council meeting. Speaking about the assessment of the EEF, it would be fair to take as a basis the evaluation of the forum by the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. I asked him this question as he was already boarding the plane. Vladimir Vladimirovich said that the forum went well, was organized, and it is useful. I consider this to be the assessment given by the head of state,” opened the meeting Yuri Trutnev.
EAF-2026 gathered representatives of federal and regional authorities, Russian and foreign businesses, scientists, and leading experts in the fields of economics and management. The main theme of the EAF this year is “Far East – development for the benefit of people.” The organizer of the forum is the Roscongress Foundation with the support of the Government of Russia.
The business program was divided into five thematic tracks: “Living and Working in the Far East,” “Mechanisms for Attracting Private Investments,” “The Far East – a Hub of International Cooperation,” “Technologies of the Present and Future,” “Logistics and Infrastructure for Economic Growth.” The VEF program included more than 150 business events with over 1,000 speakers participating.
More than 9,000 participants from 78 countries around the world attended the EEF-2026. The largest delegations came from China, Indonesia, Japan, Vietnam, the Republic of Korea, India, and Myanmar. The main outcome was 328 agreements totaling a record 6.8 trillion rubles. Among the projects discussed were large-scale and important initiatives for the Far East, such as the creation of the international transport corridor Mohe – Naiba in Yakutia, the formation of an investment mechanism for implementing a comprehensive Arctic development project and the Trans-Arctic transport corridor, among others. Following the EEF, the President supported the proposals prepared by the Government regarding the parameters of a unified preferential regime throughout the entire territory of the Far East and the Arctic. A Development Strategy for the Far East until 2036 was developed and agreed upon for the forum.
“The EEF has become an institution that operates year-round. Agreements made at the forum always continue and contribute to the development of the Far East. The statistics also indicate this: in terms of the ratio of invested funds to the total amount of agreements, the EEF is the first among the country’s business platforms. The forum supports the economy of the macroregion and is its driver. Therefore, it continues to develop and grow,” noted Igor Pavlov, First Deputy Director of the Roscongress Foundation and Director of the Eastern Economic Forum.
Proposals from the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and regional heads on updating the forum concept were discussed.
“We will improve the forum. We definitely will not stop at what has been achieved. But I see no grounds for any global changes,” said Yuri Trutnev.
The significance of APEC as a tool for the development of the Far East was described by the regional heads.
“During the Eastern Economic Forum, the delegation from the Khabarovsk Krai participated in 73 events and held 38 working meetings. The results for the region are quite significant: 11 agreements were signed totaling 11.5 billion rubles,” reported Dmitry Demeshin, the governor of Khabarovsk Krai.
“The forum confirmed the great interest of Russian and foreign investors in Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands. Important agreements for our region in the fields of science, high technology, education, and infrastructure development were reached on the sidelines of the EEF. Six significant agreements were signed. But the main outcome of the EEF for the Sakhalin region is that the agreements made translate scientific, technological, and investment initiatives into concrete projects. Their results should be new jobs, developed social support, reliable utilities infrastructure, environmental safety, and a comfortable urban environment. Sakhalin and the Kurils are islands of the future, and even today we are creating conditions here that make people want to live, work, and invest,” commented the Governor of the Sakhalin region, Valery Limarenko.
“For Buryatia, this EEF has become unprecedented in the number and quality of agreements reached. We have signed agreements that will give a powerful boost to the development of the real sector of the economy. Behind every figure is a concrete benefit for the residents of the republic,” said the head of Buryatia, Alexey Tsydenov.
“In his speech, the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, mentioned Yakutia five times, highlighting our experience in industry, logistics, medicine, and creative industries as a model for the development of the entire macroregion. This is the best confirmation that we are moving in the right direction. This year, we signed 27 agreements totaling over 180 billion rubles, and each of them is aimed at creating new jobs and improving the quality of life in the republic,” noted the head of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Aysen Nikolaev.
“The EEF for the JAO is a platform where the most significant projects for the autonomy are launched. One of the most important agreements of this forum concerns the establishment of a branch of the ‘Voin’ center in Birobidzhan. We are supported in this matter by the Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of Russia in the Far Eastern Federal District, Yuri Petrovich Trutnev,” said the governor of the JAO, Maria Kostyuk.
“Within the framework of the delegation of the Amur Region at the EEF, 53 events were held, including working meetings with representatives of federal government bodies, development institutions, financial organizations, and the largest companies. Also, as part of the forum, a presentation of the investment potential of the Amur Region was held. We presented our key investment projects, master plans, investment proposals, and tourist potential. In addition, at the EEF, the President of Russia launched the work of the branch of the “Warrior” center in the Amur Region. By the end of this year, about a thousand cadets will be trained there,” informed Vasily Orlov, governor of the Amur Region.
“As is tradition, at the district council we will sum up the results of the ‘Far East Street’ exhibition. This is one of the key events of the Eastern Economic Forum. It acquaints guests and participants with the investment potential, cultural and economic characteristics of the regions. It shows what residents are proud of and love in their region. I thank the governors for their work. We clearly understand that it is not about the awards – the awards symbolize your labor and creativity that you demonstrate in preparing for the forum and the ‘Far East Street’ exhibition,” said Yuri Trutnev.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted that each year the pavilions become more technological and meaningful. Over the course of the exhibition—from September 1 to 7, including three open days (September 5–7) for residents and visitors of the city—more than 50,000 people visited it. Winners were chosen based on the tally of expert votes in four categories (“Best Regional Pavilion,” “High Technologies,” “Best Cultural Program,” and “Best Industry Pavilion”).
In the category “Best Regional Pavilion,” the pavilion of the Kamchatka Krai was recognized as the best. The core of the stand was the theme of the 120th anniversary of the Russian submarine fleet, presented through the history of the city of Vilyuchinsk and the chronicles of the service of the submarine “Saint George the Victorious.” In the exhibition, this theme was presented as “City of the Defenders of Peace.”
“I fully agree with the jury’s opinion, although I traditionally do not interfere. The Kamchatka team did a great job. The format was changed. Their pavilion was a submarine hull that you could go down into. That’s great. It’s a new perspective on Kamchatka. We are used to Kamchatka by observing volcanoes and dog sleds. Here is a completely different view. It is interesting. It reminds us of history,” noted Yuri Trutnev.
In the “High Technologies” category, two regions won – Primorye and Khabarovsk Krai. In the “Best Cultural Program” category, the best were recognized as the programs of the pavilions of the Republic of Buryatia, Amur Oblast, and the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). Yuri Trutnev also awarded the Center for the Development of Military-Sports Training and Patriotic Education of Youth “Warrior,” which won in the “Best Industry Pavilion” category.
