A solemn ceremony was held in the capital to open the Moscow Transport Hackathon. It is attended by 240 teams from 72 regions of Russia. This was reported by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry. Maxim Liksutov.

“By the order of Sergey Sobyanin, the capital’s transport complex continuously supports development teams. The Moscow transport hackathon is a unique opportunity to solve real problems that make passenger trips even safer and more comfortable. I wish the teams productive work and success! Perhaps your solution will turn out to be the best and will be integrated into Moscow’s transport infrastructure,” said Maxim Liksutov.

In the next two days, participants will have to work on prototypes of solutions for four applied tasks of the capital’s transport complex in an online format and upload them to hackathon platform. The presentation of tasks for the teams during the opening ceremony was conducted by experts from the IT company “MTTECH” and the carrier on the Moscow – Saint Petersburg high-speed line “VSM-400”.

One of the areas is the development of solutions for backup positioning without global navigation systems. Participants will need to create a nonlinear mathematical model and software based on the ROS 2 robotics platform to calculate the speed and position of the tram.

The second task is to forecast the congestion of tram routes using artificial intelligence (AI) services. Participants will need to create a mathematical model to predict passenger flow based on neural networks, including machine learning.

The third direction is a predictor of changes in the traffic schedule. It will be necessary to create an AI system for early forecasting of possible changes in urban transport movement.

The fourth task is gamification for the high-speed railway (HSR). Teams are invited to create a prototype of an interactive training game with real work scenarios for HSR employees.

As part of the hackathon, there will be online sessions with experts from an IT company, the research center in the field of artificial intelligence at Lomonosov Moscow State University, the “Smart City” research center of the National Research University Higher School of Economics, and the Association of Transport Engineers.

The semifinalists of the competition will present their developed solution prototypes to the expert jury during an online presentation. The finalists will be invited to the closing ceremony, which will take place in person on October 3. The winners will be announced there.

The total prize fund of the hackathon amounts to four million rubles. Prototypes of solutions from the winning teams may receive support for further development and implementation in the city’s transport system, and their authors — the opportunity for potential collaboration with Moscow transport organizations.

The event is organized by the “Transport Innovations of Moscow” fund, the IT company “MTTECH,” and the organization “VSM-400” with the support of the capital city Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development.

You can learn how the capital has changed in recent years, what initiatives aimed at making the lives of city residents even more comfortable are currently being implemented, and what awaits Moscow and its inhabitants in the near future in the large-scale special project on the mos.ru portal, dedicated to the development of key sectors of Moscow. Among them are transport, industry, healthcare, education, sports, and construction.

Project “Transport” will be of interest to everyone who wants to learn about the main stages of development in this field, support for electric transport, and the development of the route network. In recent years, Moscow’s public transport has become more comfortable and environmentally friendly, travel time within the city has significantly decreased, and infrastructure for private electric cars has appeared.
