Creative schools, libraries, cultural centers of the capital, subordinate to Moscow Department of Culture, expand educational programs and offer children and adults new formats for learning and creativity. Thus, in the new academic year, residents will be able to master digital design, 3D modeling, programming, robotics, animation, and even create their own fragrances.

In Moscow, 151 creative educational organizations operate for children. Kids can engage in a wide range of areas in musical, theatrical, choreographic, and fine arts. At the same time, educational programs are constantly expanding to meet the audience’s demands.

Modern software in teaching

In the capital’s creative educational institutions, the fields of “Design” and “Architecture” are open and successfully operating. These are taught, for example, at the “START” School of Arts, Timiryazev Children’s Art School, Children’s School of Arts “Center”, Children’s School of Arts named after I.F. Stravinsky, and children’s art schools named after V.A. Vatagin, V.F. Stozharov, and No. 7. Mastering the programs in these schools typically takes from three to five years.

Art school students are taught using modern software (SW). For example, editors such as Krita, GIMP, Paint.NET, Illustrator, and InDesign, CorelDraw are used for creating and processing raster and vector images. 3D modeling is taught using Blender and SketchUp programs. To teach animation basics, Dragon Frame, TVPaint Animation, Animate, and Premiere Pro are used. Image generation utilizes the ‘Shedevrum’ service and the neural networks ‘Kandinsky 2.0’ and ‘Kandinsky 3.0’. Two- and three-dimensional computer-aided design and drafting system Autodesk AutoCAD helps in teaching design engineering.

The kids learn about the areas of software application and professions where its use is possible. Children master the basics of working with programs and apply the acquired knowledge and skills in creative projects. This is valuable experience for students that will also be useful to them in their professional careers. And right now, it is an opportunity to get acquainted with the field of design and choose a direction for further education. Using computer programs does not require adaptation and can be applied in teaching various subjects to children aged 10–17. Furthermore, some of these programs, such as Krita, GIMP, Blender, and SketchUp, are free.

Thus, at the children’s art school “START,” in the “Computer Graphics” course for fourth and fifth grades of additional art education, a number of computer programs related to artificial intelligence technologies are used at two stages — in the practice of 3D modeling and in the process of image post-processing. These include, for example, the automated design editor Rhinoceros 3D, as well as the 3D max program for creating graduation projects. The students use these tools as part of their pre-diploma and diploma work. And for visualizing images taken from constructed 3D models, the students use the RevitVeras program and neural networks.

In the future, graduates may, for example, become specialists in the fields of graphic design, 3D modeling in architectural design, game design, animation and cartooning, visualization of architecture and interiors.

New educational programs

A new program “Musical Engineering” has been launched at the Children’s Music School affiliated with the Gnessin Moscow Secondary Special Music School (MSSMS). It prepares unique specialists who will be able to participate in the creation of domestic software in the field of musical art. The program lasts three years — students will learn musical notation, work with electronic sound, and the basics of programming. In the future, this training will assist in early career guidance for children and skill acquisition for admission to the Gnessin MSSMS (college), where they plan to open a program on software development and management.

Starting from the new academic year, high school students of the V.A. Vatagin Children’s Art School will be able to individually create projects in the areas of “Animation,” “Book,” “Graphic Design,” “Model,” and “Monumental and Decorative Composition.” The finished work will become an addition to the child’s portfolio when applying to higher and secondary educational institutions focused on the arts.

At the A. G. Novikov Children’s Music School, the “Computer Arrangement” program and IT courses have been launched. In the IT courses modules, for example, children will work in Scratch and Figma, create chatbots, and study the Python language. Within the “Computer Arrangement” direction, they will master experimental techniques of working with sound and use their own music to realize artistic ideas.

Studios for training in the latest technologies

More than 950 studios and sections operate in cultural institutions. They function both within classical areas — dance and art — as well as in new ones, where students study modern technologies.

For example, at library No. 128 — the M.A. Sholokhov Cultural Center, there opened neurostudio “My Universe” For children from seven years old. Participants will invent characters, draw them, and bring them to life using neural networks. The characters begin to move, blink, and act as the child intended. In the end, a video is created with the animated characters. Classes are held on Sundays from 3:00 PM.

Robot School “Elektronik” accepts participants from five years old at library No. 91 named after E.L. Voynich. Young electronics enthusiasts will assemble and program their own robot, get acquainted with algorithms and mechanics, learn to work with sensors and motors. Children will build a nightlight, a remote-controlled boat, a greenhouse for growing microgreens, and more. Classes take place on Sundays from 12:00.

Library No. 100 is operating robotics studio for children of different ages. Each training module is dedicated to various sections — mechanics, hydraulics, and electricity. The kids will assemble mechanisms, write code using loops and variables, and also equip a robot with sensors. There are groups for preschoolers, schoolchildren, and advanced levels.

The cultural center “Strogino” operates IT workshop “Script” for children from six to fourteen years old. Here, in-demand IT fields are studied in a new format. The kids will develop personal qualities such as independence, imagination, perseverance, diligence, and self-confidence. And of course, the children will learn programming. Classes take place on Tuesdays at 16:30.

In the new season, the cultural center “Moskvich” is enrolling immediately into two new decorative and applied arts studios — “Semitsvetik” and “Brush Painting”. For classes at Semitsvetik Studio children from four to nine years old will engage in drawing, painting, graphics, and sculpting. Children from nine years old are invited to the studio “Brush Painting”, where they will enhance their skills in painting on wood, fabric, and ceramics, create their own toys, and much more.

All classes are paid, with the option to purchase a subscription or pay for a single lesson. Details can be found on the pages of the sections and studios.

A large-scale project is presented on the mos.ru portal special project, dedicated to the development of key sectors of Moscow. Among them are transport, industry, healthcare, education, sports, and construction. The special project helps to learn how the capital has changed in recent years, which initiatives aimed at making city residents’ lives even more comfortable are currently being implemented, and what awaits Moscow and its inhabitants in the near future.

On the project page Culture, Heritage and Leisure Industry you can learn about how architectural monuments are preserved in the capital.

Moscow is the center of the country’s cultural life and ranks among the leading metropolises in terms of the number of museums and exhibition halls. The city has established a film cluster that includes the Moskino film factory on Ryazansky Prospekt, the Gorky Film Studio, and the Moskino film park.
