During the implementation of the capital repair program in the capital, specialists urban management complex In Moscow, 30 houses of various styles and years of construction were renovated on Vernadsky Avenue. Some buildings were painted in bright colors. The development of Vernadsky Avenue — one of the main thoroughfares of the capital — began back in the 1930s and continues to this day.

“Blue Biedermeier” and “Signal White”

For example, a major overhaul took place in 2024 in the building at 127 Vernadsky Avenue. This 16-story panel apartment building with a technical floor was constructed in 1978 according to a modified project of a standard series as part of the large-scale development of the Troparevo-Nikulino district. It has a complex shape, with decorative elements on the façades — a cornice at the attic level, as well as a frieze at the first-floor level.

Specialists cleaned and washed the exposed surfaces of the facades, and treated the wet areas with antifungal compounds. The house was replastered and painted again according to the color scheme in the shades of “Biedermeier blue” and “signal white”.

In addition, the entrances were repaired, modern doors were installed, new tiles were laid on the plinth, and the blind area, drip edges, and slopes were brought into order. On the flat roof, a new sand-cement screed and a torch-applied roofing membrane were installed, and the internal drainage funnels were also replaced.

“Brown yellowfoil,” “orange-yellow,” and “signal white”

Major renovations were also carried out at building 95, block 2 on Vernadsky Avenue. The nine-story apartment building was constructed in 1968 based on a modified project of a standard series. It was built as part of a large-scale program aimed at creating comfortable residential areas with infrastructure for Muscovites. The building was included in the development plan of an entire neighborhood, which began its development following the construction of the Yugo-Zapadnaya metro station.

The building has a simple shape, without decorative elements. The main structural feature of the houses of this modification is that the bearing walls are made transverse.

Special attention was paid to restoring the facades, which were finished with decorative tiles at the factory. To restore facades of this type, the Moscow City Capital Repair Fund uses a modern technology involving polymer-cement mixtures applied to reinforcing meshes.

The specialists washed the exposed surfaces, removed the detached tiles, and applied a special plaster-adhesive and simultaneously reinforcing compound. Then they used decorative plaster, a special vapor-impermeable paint coating, and also sealed the panel joints.

The house was painted in shades of “brown-yellowleaf,” “orange-yellow,” and “signal white.” In addition, the entrances and roof were brought into order, the slopes were repaired, a new asphalt concrete blind area was made, and a number of engineering systems and electrical networks were replaced.

House in warm tones

The Moscow Capital Repair Fund is restoring building 13 on Vernadsky Avenue this year. The eight-story residential building was constructed in 1959 according to a standard series design. The facade has a U-shaped form. Around the perimeter of the building there are crowning and inter-floor cornices, as well as belts.

Before starting the major renovation, a separate project was developed that took into account all the features of the building. Currently, specialists are cleaning and washing the facade, as well as applying antifungal protection. The brick masonry damaged during years of use is also being refurbished. After completing all the mandatory preparatory work, the exterior facades will be treated with a hydrophobic coating. This is a preventive measure aimed at protecting the walls from the aggressive impact of precipitation.

A new coat of paint in calm warm tones will be applied to the brick walls of the courtyard facade. In addition, the original appearance of the crowning cornice will be restored. Upon completion of the main work, the building’s plinth will be replastered and repainted, and the entrances and balconies will be repaired. The roof of the building will have unsuitable wooden structures and coverings replaced, and the attic space will be insulated. A new electrical wiring system will also be installed in the building.
