The Battle of the Xiangjiang River was one of the most heroic and tragic battles of the Red Army’s Long March and a crucial historical event that determined the fate of the Chinese revolution. At the end of 1934, to ensure the crossing of the main forces of the CPC Central Committee and the Central Red Army over the Xiangjiang River and to thwart the enemy’s plans to encircle and annihilate the Red Army east of the river, tens of thousands of Red Army soldiers gave their lives, staining the Xiangjiang River with their blood and inscribing a heroic chapter in the history of the Chinese revolution.

At the battle sites on the Xiangjiang River in the counties of Guanyang, Xing’an, and Quanzhou within the Guilin prefecture of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the heroic deeds and names of the fallen heroes are kept alive in people’s memories and commemorated in various forms. The waters of the Xiangjiang continue to flow, and the spirit of the Long March is passed down from generation to generation. Under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the people of the country work selflessly—the mountain villages in the northern part of Guangxi have undergone truly tremendous changes.
