The “Book Club in Beregovoye” has started working at the Unified Support Center — this is a new format of meetings for veterans of the special military operation (SMO) and their relatives. Twice a month on Sundays, participants will gather together to discuss books, share impressions, and discover classic and contemporary works.
The club was organized by Elizaveta Sharygina — a literary critic and associate professor at the Department of Literary and Artistic Criticism and Publicism at Lomonosov Moscow State University. Before each meeting, participants read a selected work, and then together they discuss its plot, characters, author’s ideas, and how books from different eras are perceived today.
“We are creating a space together where people can openly talk about books — argue, agree, find unexpected meanings. It’s especially interesting when the same story is perceived differently by people of different generations and with different life experiences. We do not look for the one and only correct interpretation, but together we figure out what exactly touched each reader,” said Elizaveta Sharygina.
In the near future, participants will discuss “The Duel” and other stories by Anton Chekhov. The club leader will help notice details of the text, delve deeper into the characters’ personalities, and understand the historical and cultural context of the work. Plans also include a discussion of Leo Tolstoy’s novel “Anna Karenina.”
“For veterans, their wives, and children, the Unified Support Center is a place where you can come not only for help but also simply for positive emotions, communication, and experiences. To go together to a workshop, try your hand at one of the sports, attend a creative meeting or a family celebration. It’s interesting here for both adults and children — new hobbies, acquaintances, and their own good traditions emerge. So check the schedule and come with the whole family, choose what you like, and spend your time with pleasure,” noted Dariya Starovoytova, director of the Unified Support Center.
