Over 38 thousand applications for training in clubs and sections have been submitted to the Moscow Palace of Pioneers on the Vorobyovy Gory in this academic year. The most popular areas were technical and physical education and sports. This was reported by the press service Department of Education and Science of the City of Moscow.

“At the Palace of Pioneers, more than 1,800 programs in six areas have been opened for young Muscovites: technical, artistic, tourist and local history, natural sciences, physical culture and sports, and social and humanitarian. You can sign up for clubs and sections at

on the portal mos.ru, in the electronic diary “Moscow Electronic School” or in the service’s mobile application. Registration is available throughout the year,” noted the agency’s press service.

Artistic and physical culture-sports clusters

The artistic cluster brings together theater and music studios, visual arts clubs, as well as culinary, design, and circus disciplines. Here, kids learn stage movement and acting skills, study drawing and cooking. This year, the most popular disciplines were visual arts, theatrical creativity, and choreography.

Varvara Vyalykh, a ninth-grade student at the Vorobyovy Gory Lyceum, said that she has loved to dance since childhood and used to hold home concerts for her parents, so by the age of three they took her to the V. Song and Dance Ensemble.

S. Lokteva. There, Varvara was taught not just to perform dance movements, but to feel the music and convey emotions through it. She noted that the lessons helped her develop perseverance and diligence, as well as make the best friends.

The physical culture and sports cluster encompasses team sports, aesthetic and intellectual sports, as well as military-patriotic education programs. During the current admission campaign, football, chess, handball, and military-patriotic clubs were the most popular.

Artemiy Timofeev, a sixth-grade student at school No. 1861 “Zagorye”, shared that he used to practice martial arts but then wanted to try a team sport. He said he was attracted to handball because this game combines offense and defense and also offers the chance to score goals. According to Artemiy, handball helps him become stronger, faster, and braver, improves his mood, and teaches independence and mutual assistance. He added that thanks to trips to training camps and competitions, he has made many new friends.

Tourist and Local History and Natural Science Clusters

The tourist and local lore cluster includes maritime affairs, studies about Moscow, sports orienteering, and tourism. Participants study the history of their native land and acquire skills in tourist training. This year, most of the kids preferred sports orienteering and tourism.

The natural science cluster covers astronomy, geography and geology, chemistry, biology and medicine, as well as botany and zoology. Schoolchildren learn to conduct observations and experiments, become acquainted with scientific research methods, and master the basics of natural sciences. This year, biology, medicine, geography, and geology proved to be the most in demand.

Nikolay Novikov, an 11th-grade student at school No. 1253, noted that he enjoys attending the “General Biology” club because there he not only studies nature but also learns to perceive it as a living world. He emphasized that each lesson reminds him that even a small step towards nature can change a lot.

Technical and socio-humanitarian clusters

The technical cluster includes fields such as robotics, information technology and programming, work with unmanned aerial vehicles, aviation, ship, and railway modeling, as well as astronautics and astronomy. Here, schoolchildren develop engineering skills, learn to design and assemble models, program, and work with technical devices. This year, demand was particularly high for areas related to mathematics and physics, robotics and engineering, as well as information technology and programming.

“Professions change. Today one thing is popular, tomorrow another. But the ability to solve complex problems with both hands and mind will always be needed. At the Moscow Palace of Pioneers, in technical clubs, they teach us to think: to break one big problem into 10 small ones and tackle them one by one. With this skill, I won’t get lost in any profession, no matter which I choose,” shared Timur Yarullin, a ninth-grade student of school No. 1533 “LIT.”

The socio-humanitarian cluster offers schoolchildren a wide range of directions — from Russian language and speech culture to foreign languages, media and journalism, as well as cinema. In the classes, the children improve their communication skills, learn to work competently with information, and master the basics of media production and the humanities. This year, the courses in English language, as well as programs in the media and journalism fields, attracted the greatest interest from participants.

The admission campaign at the Moscow Palace of Pioneers this year is organized in an updated format. At the center’s venues, schoolchildren together with their parents can get acquainted with the teachers in advance, as well as inspect the infrastructure: classrooms, costume and makeup rooms, laboratories, creative workshops, and sports halls.

Additionally, short-term programs are provided for the kids, which help them navigate the variety of directions and understand what suits them best. Classes will be held from October 26 to 30. Participants will be able to immerse themselves in the chosen field, complete a small project, create a craft, or prepare a dance number.
