Beijing, September 19 /Xinhua/ — China firmly opposes unilateral sanctions that lack a UN mandate and basis in international law, as well as so-called “secondary sanctions” targeting third countries. This was stated on Saturday by an official spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce of the PRC.
The official representative of the Ministry of Commerce made a corresponding statement commenting on the signing by the United States on September 18 /North American Eastern Time/ of the “Lindsey O. Graham 2026 Act on Sanctions Against Russia and Iran.” The law tightens sanctions against Russia, extends sanctions related to Iran, and allows for the imposition of tariffs of up to 100 percent on certain third countries importing Russian oil or natural gas.
According to the official representative, China always conducts normal trade and economic cooperation with countries around the world based on equality and mutual benefit. This cooperation is not directed against third parties and is not subject to interference or coercion by third parties, he added.
As the official representative pointed out, China will closely monitor the subsequent actions of the United States and reserves the right to take all necessary measures to firmly protect its national sovereignty and development interests, as well as the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies.
The official representative expressed hope that the United States would work with China in the same direction and maintain stable trade and economic relations through dialogue and consultations, while simultaneously making a greater contribution to maintaining the global trade order and the security and stability of global production and supply chains. –0–
