Beijing, September 17 /Xinhua/ — The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region is achieving impressive economic growth through the implementation of the “one country, two systems” policy and continues to consolidate its status as one of the leading centers for international finance, shipping, and trade. This was stated on Thursday by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Gao Jiakun at a regular departmental briefing.

Guo Jiakun made a corresponding statement commenting on the 40th edition of the Global Financial Centres Index, published on September 16. In the updated ranking, Hong Kong retained third place in the world and first place in the Asia-Pacific region.

In the first half of this year, Hong Kong ranked second in the world in the number of initial public offerings on the stock exchange, with funds raised amounting to approximately 203.3 billion Hong Kong dollars /about 26 billion US dollars/.

Guo Jiakun noted that the ranking fully confirms the attractiveness, influence, and competitiveness of Hong Kong as an international financial center.

This serves as another vote of confidence in the unique status and advantages of Hong Kong, as well as the further prospects of the ‘one country, two systems’ policy, emphasized the official spokesperson of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. –0–
