A new through route has appeared near the Novoslobodskaya metro station between Seleznevskaya Street and Veskovsky Lane.

“Another convenient route for motorists has appeared in the center of Moscow. Previously, to travel between Seleznevskaya Street and Veskovsky Lane, drivers had to make a detour through adjacent streets. Specialists from the Center for Traffic Management (CTM) found a way to create a direct passage through Dolgorukovskaya Street without large-scale construction—by means of new road markings and traffic light regulation. Now, on some routes, motorists will be able to drive one to two kilometers less. Following Sergey Sobyanin’s instructions, we continue to selectively improve the city’s road network as part of the transport development strategy until 2030,” noted the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry.

Maxim Liksutov.

The intersection of Dolgorukovskaya and Seleznevskaya streets is located in the Tverskoy district. It is the only intersection on Dolgorukovskaya Street, and the nearest one — on Novoslobodskaya Street — is 600 meters away. Previously, to travel from east to west, drivers had to pass through Oruzheyny Lane or Palikha Street. Both routes are often congested: Oruzheyny Lane is a parallel road to the Garden Ring, and on Palikha Street there is only one lane for driving straight and turning right. For local trips, these routes were inconvenient and led to additional mileage.

According to the TsODD project, a comprehensive re-marking was carried out at the intersection with Seleznevskaya Street: a second lane was added on Seleznevskaya for going straight and turning left, including into Veskovsky Lane and Dolgorukovskaya Street toward the center, and a guiding island was arranged. Additionally, lane direction markings were made and traffic lights were installed, synchronized with the traffic lights at the pedestrian crossing to the north. Thanks to these changes, drivers now have a new convenient route through Dolgorukovskaya Street.

Re-marking projects have been actively implemented in Moscow since 2018. Every year, the specialists of the Traffic Management Center develop about 100 projects. They help improve driving conditions without excessive costs or prolonged traffic restrictions: adding lanes is implemented faster than the usual road widening through construction. This is one of the most effective and fastest solutions for increasing road capacity, making trips faster and more comfortable in conditions of heavy traffic both in limited urban spaces and on high-speed highways with intense traffic.
