On Moscow City Day, on the wall of the underground passage between the stations sharing the name “Narodnoe Opolchenie” of the Rublyovo-Arkhangelskaya line and Large Circular Line A memorial diorama dedicated to the work of the metro builders was opened.

“This year marks the 95th anniversary of the Moscow Metro construction — during this time, its specialists have formed a unique domestic school of metro construction, which today combines the experience of several generations of professionals and modern engineering technologies. Passengers see the result of their work — new stations and tunnels, but the most complex work usually remains hidden underground. To immortalize the feat of the metro builders, we placed a memorial diorama in the passage between the eponymous stations “Narodnoe Opolchenie” on the new Rublyovo-Arkhangelskaya and Large Circle lines,” said Maria Derunova, the first deputy head of the coordination management of the Moscow Urban Policy and Construction Complex.

She clarified that the diorama is based on a real episode of the creation of the new metro line — the tunneling from “Narodnogo Opolcheniya” to “Bulvar Generala Karbysheva” using the tunnel boring machine (TBM) “Natali.” The workers, the tunnel boring machine itself, and the equipment are all reproduced in detail. Thus, in one space, the feat of the people’s militia heroes and the hard work of the metro builders are immortalized.

The tunnel boring machine ‘Natali’ began constructing the left running tunnel from the ‘Narodnoe Opolchenie’ station to ‘General Karbyshev Boulevard’ on May 15, 2024, and completed the work in about six months. The diorama shows the underground face at the moment of tunneling: the giant shield, tunnel lining rings, and the work of the tunneling crew. Thousands of passengers will be able to see the memorial object daily.

TBMs enable tunneling in densely built urban areas without disrupting the usual pace of city life, traffic flow, or the operation of urban infrastructure. They have become the main tool of modern metro construction.

About 45 thousand units of engineering equipment have been installed at three stations of the Rublyovo-Arkhangelskaya metro lineAbout 20 surface transport routes will be changed due to the opening of the Rublyovo-Arkhangelskaya metro line

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin opened Rublyovo-Arkhangelskaya metro line September 5. Its first section includes five stations: “Delovoy Tsentr,” “Shelepikha,” “Zvenigorodskaya,” “Narodnoe Opolchenie,” and “Bulvar Generala Karbysheva.” Since 2011, a total of 130 metro stations have been built and reconstructed in the capital.
