International competitions of young restorers will be held in Moscow from September 24 to 27 as part of the fifth exhibition “PROrestoration. Import substitution in restoration materials and technologies”. They will traditionally begin on the first day of its operation.
This year, about 90 people will participate in the competition. Among them are representatives from Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, the Donetsk People’s Republic, the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), Krasnoyarsk Krai, Irkutsk, Kaliningrad, Kurgan, Moscow, and Oryol regions, Moscow and Saint Petersburg, as well as students from vocational schools from Belarus and Kazakhstan.
“Training professional restorers is one of the most important tasks for preserving historical heritage. We pay special attention to this: organizing internships, promoting the industry, and holding specialized events for young people. The competition for young restorers is an effective and clear way to identify talents, give them a start in life, support high standards in the profession, and attract public attention to it. Throughout the exhibitions, more than 300 young and talented restorers have participated in the competitions,” said the head of the Department of Cultural Heritage of the city of Moscow.
The competitions will take place in 11 categories. Participants will compete in the restoration of molded decoration and plasters, easel oil and tempera painting, terrazzo plasters and stone decoration, works made of wood, metal roofing, gilding, monumental painting, architectural white-stone decoration, as well as graphic works, archival and library materials. A separate category is color matching: adapting the project color to the cultural heritage site.
Among the participants are students and graduates of leading specialized educational institutions. Moscow is represented by the Moscow College of Architecture, Design and Reengineering No. 26 (“26 KADR”), the Russian Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture of Ilya Glazunov, the Moscow Academic Art School, and the Stroganov Russian State University of Arts and Industry, while Saint Petersburg is represented by the St. Petersburg State Academy of Art and Industry named after A.L. Stieglitz. Also among the participants are the Novosibirsk State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, the Donbas National Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture, the Belarusian State Academy of Arts, and other specialized educational institutions.
The winners and prize-winners in each category will be determined by a committee consisting of well-known architects and restorers. The award ceremony will take place on the final day of the exhibition.
