On Friday, September 11, the premiere of the play “People of the City N” took place at the Russian Drama Theater “Masterovye,” created with the support of the auto giant to mark the 50th anniversary of the release of the first KAMAZ vehicle and the 400th anniversary of the city of Naberezhnye Chelny.
The event was attended by the CEO of PJSC KAMAZ Sergey Kogogin, State Duma deputy of the Russian Federation Alfiya Kogogina, mayor of Naberezhnye Chelny Nail Magdeev, head of the Raissa RT administration Asgat Safarov, and top managers of the auto giant. The invitation to the premiere was also extended to the original builders, veterans and employees of KAMAZ, city officials, participants of the Special Military Operation, and media representatives.
Congratulating on the premiere of the play, the head of the auto giant Sergey Kogogin expressed his gratitude to the creative duo behind the play – representatives of the “Living City” Foundation and the actors of the “Masters” theater, noting that this is a story about KamAZ workers.
“This is a play about our people. All feats are accomplished by people. Neither machines, nor structures, nor tools mean anything without people. It is precisely people who create history, and each generation has done something important, unusual, heroic, – emphasized Sergey Kogogin. – Those who conceived the idea of creating such a huge enterprise in the city, who managed to build factories in a short time, who developed capacities, created machines, who carried out the dieselization of the country, and the following generations who shifted KAMAZ onto new tracks, new models. Every person strove to do their job well. And this story is about that. I am endlessly grateful to our team. Congratulations on the premiere!”.
In turn, the mayor of Naberezhnye Chelny noted the significance of the theatrical gift for the city’s anniversary and thanked the project team. “To stage a play about a great construction project that no one will repeat on Earth in the next 100-200 years, one must be a very brave, initiative, creative director with a strong team. Just like the team that came to the Kama River shore and built the factory. Only brave people can work and create in Chelny!”– emphasized Nail Magdeev.
City was also congratulated on the premiere by State Duma deputy of the Russian Federation, Alfiya Kogogina. “Nothing good happens in the city without KAMAZ. The automotive giant is the conduitcultural center in Naberezhnye Chelny. “KAMAZ” is not just factory chimneys and workshops, it is people who want to live in a beautiful city, to go to the theater. Thanks to our joint work with the city and the republic, such wonderful artistic spaces are appearing, – noted Alfiya Kogogina.
“People of City N” is a musical in two acts with an intermission. On the premiere day, the audience was immersed in a vivid story about those who built the legendary KAMAZ and the white-stone city on the Kama. The action unfolds across three eras – the 1970s, 1990s, and 2010s. At the center of the narrative is the story of a generation of first-builders who came to Naberezhnye Chelny from different parts of the country. Moreover, the characters and plot lines are created based on real people’s stories. For instance, one of the heroes is recognized as a legend of the automotive plant – the chief designer of KAMAZ, Danis Valeev, who participated in the creation of the entire model range and worked for 24 years as the chief designer. Incidentally, he assisted the authors of the play.
The idea of staging the play in the year of the double anniversary belongs to Zhanna Khaliullina, Deputy General Director of PJSC KAMAZ for Personnel Management, Organizational Development, and Corporate Governance. The chief director was Diana Safarova – a graduate of GITIS, producer, co-founder of the Living City Foundation for the Support of Contemporary Art, and Honored Artist of the Republic of Tatarstan. The scriptwriter is Dina Safina – a Kazan director and playwright, laureate of the national theater award “Golden Mask.” The director-producer is Ilnur Garifullin, who is known in Tatarstan for his theatrical works.
The play “People of the City N”, staged with the support of PJSC KAMAZ and the company’s general director Sergey Kogogin, will become part of the permanent repertoire of the Russian Drama Theater “Masterovye”. The duration is 2 hours and 45 minutes with an intermission.
