In the special section “Golden Ring” tourism service Russpass new themed routes have appeared. Currently, the page features more than 40 ready-made travel options. They allow you to see architectural monuments and museum collections, learn about folk crafts, local traditions, and the culture of the regions. The starting point for trips along the Golden Ring will be Moscow.
A new interest in historical routes
On September 1, it was the 95th anniversary of the birth of journalist Yuri Bychkov, who in 1967 created the tourist route “Golden Ring.” Today it is receiving new development. More and more travelers are interested in the history of different territories and the contemporary interpretation of traditions. Tourists want not only to see the sights but also to get a deeper understanding of the local culture.
Together with the audience’s requests, the ways of presenting tourist destinations are also changing. Educational projects, expeditions, field research, and digital solutions are used for this purpose. One such tool is the special “Golden Ring” section in the Russpass service.
“The Golden Ring has long ceased to be just a weekend route — it is one of the most recognizable images of historic Russia,” notes Tatyana Rybkina, director of the All-Russian Museum of Decorative Arts.
According to her, interest in local traditions helps the development of territories. Travelers want not only to see the sights but also to meet local artisans, purchase the products they create, learn craft techniques, and gain new experiences.
Folk crafts of the Golden Ring cities
Folk crafts hold a special place in the cultural heritage of the Golden Ring cities. Rostov Veliky is known for enamelwork, Ivanovo for textiles, Sergiev Posad for wooden toys, Yaroslavl for majolica, and Kostroma for filigree and birch bark products.
“People go there for the authentic atmosphere, where the local tradition can still be read in the crafts and everyday culture. When a city has its own recognizable cultural profile, it almost immediately begins to work for the economy,” notes Tatyana Rybkina.
You can get acquainted with the features of different regions thanks to the ready-made routes of the Russpass service. For example, the route “Palekh, Yuzha, Kholuy: ancient centers of folk crafts of the Ivanovo region” unites three well-known craft centers of the region.
