In The Moscow A.S. Pushkin Drama Theatre, subordinate to the capital To the Department of Culture, announced plans for the 77th season. Artistic Director, Honored Artist of Russia Evgeny Pisarev, and Theater Director Vladimir Zhukov spoke about the new productions awaiting the audience during the company gathering.
Three premieres
The first premiere — “The Opera of the Poor”. Eugene Pisarev turned to the iconic “The Threepenny Opera” by Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill. At the center of the plot is the bandit Mack the Knife, whose secret marriage to the beggar leader’s daughter leads to a dangerous clash between the enraged father and the sheriff who protects the criminal. The lead role will be played by Maxim Matveev. Performances will take place on September 16, 17, 18, and 19.
“The last two seasons we have spent summarizing — probably connected with the theater’s anniversary. We returned to our roots, recalled history, and felt the connection through time. And now we stand on the threshold of a new stage. The title of the season’s first premiere — ‘The Beggars’ Opera’ — unites all the historical and creative experience of the theater that once arose here and the theater that exists here today. This, of course, is a challenge and a necessity to grow up — and we are ready for it,” noted Evgeny Pisarev.
The premiere of the play “Pride and Prejudice” is scheduled for March. The eponymous novel by Jane Austen will be adapted for the stage by the chief director of the Krasnoyarsk Youth Theatre, Murat Abulkhatinov.
“Rehearsals will begin in early November, and the casting will be literally in the next few days,” said the artistic director.
They will conclude the season with the production “The Mistress of the Inn,” based on the comedy “The Tavern Keeper” by Carlo Goldoni. The author himself considered this story “the most moral, the most useful, and the most instructive” of all his works. The play will be directed by Igor Teplov.

Directorial Laboratory and Victoria Isakova’s Anniversary
At the theater branch — on the stage in Sytinsky Lane — three young directors will present sketches of performances that may turn into full productions and become part of the repertoire.
Lenara Gadelshina, a graduate of GITIS who collaborates with regional and capital theaters, will present a stage version of Vladimir Tendryakov’s novella “Reckoning”: literature teacher Arkady Pamyatnov, working in a typical Soviet school, is forced to admit the complete failure of his educational method when his student commits murder.
Sergey Volkov will prepare a sketch for Jean Anouilh’s “The Lark,” and Alexander Dmitriev will work on Fyodor Dostoevsky’s “The Adolescent.”
In October, the theater will celebrate the anniversary of the Honored Artist of Russia Viktoria Isakova — a special event will be held in her honor on the main stage. She was admitted to the Pushkin Theater troupe in 2001.

Evenings of remembrance
There will also be memorial evenings on the theater’s main stage.
On February 21, the 85th anniversary of the birth of People’s Artist of Russia Vera Alentova will be celebrated. She served at the Pushkin Theater for 60 years. The actress passed away in December of last year.
The second memorial evening will be dedicated to the Honored Artist of Russia, Roman Kozak, who would have turned 70 in 2027. He was the artistic director of this theater from 2001 to 2010 and had a great influence on its creative development.
