Moscow has once again confirmed its status as the most athletic city in Russia. This summer, the capital hosted more than 50 major sports festivals and over 25 thousand publicly accessible training sessions. More than seven million people took part in them. This was stated in in his blog said Sergey Sobyanin.
“We placed a special emphasis on family and children’s sports—the ‘Family Games’ project in parks, squares, and courtyards, as well as on the school sports festival,” wrote the Mayor of Moscow.
The school sports festival brought together more than 600 teams from school and student sports clubs. The “Family Games” project was attended by over 50,000 participants throughout the entire season. And the main sporting event of the summer — the sports festival at “Luzhniki” — gathered nearly two million participants in a month.

In addition, Muscovites eagerly played padel on courts near metro stations and chess in the capital’s parks. The big running festival, regular runs, bike races, and bike marathons also set new participation records.
This summer, Moscow also set world records for the length of the obstacle course game “The Floor is Lava” (over half a kilometer long), the scale of the table tennis tournament (more than six thousand participants), and cycling sessions (nearly 2,500 people).
In addition, the capital set records for Russia and the BRICS countries in jumping (1,700 athletes), SUP yoga in Strogino, simultaneous chess playing (2,800 chess players), and unique tricks by hydroflyers on the Moscow River.
The projects “Sports Weekends,” “My Sports District,” and “Summer. Beach. Moscow Sports” have expanded their geography and formats. Under the guidance of professional coaches, more than 290,000 Muscovites trained at 200 city venues — in parks, courtyards, and even on the roofs of district centers.
“Our main goal is to make sports accessible near home in every district of Moscow,” concluded Sergey Sobyanin.
The summer sports season has ended, but autumn lies ahead with an equally interesting and rich sports program. People of all ages will have the opportunity to lead a healthy and active life.
