As part of the project by the Traffic Management Center (TMC), the traffic organization on Balaklavsky Avenue was adjusted. Three new signal-controlled U-turns and two additional left turns were arranged here. According to TMC specialists, these measures will reduce drivers’ routes by approximately three kilometers.
Several hundred drivers will be able to use the new and convenient routes during peak hours.
“Under the project by the Traffic Management Center (TSODD), the traffic pattern on Balaklavsky Avenue was comprehensively changed. New U-turns and left turns were arranged here, a regulated pedestrian crossing was installed, and additional lanes were added at the intersection with Chertanovskaya Street. According to TSODD specialists’ calculations, thanks to changes at the intersection with Chertanovskaya Street, drivers will be able to save up to seven minutes during peak hours, and the new U-turns will reduce unnecessary distance by about three kilometers. We continue to make traffic in the capital faster, safer, and more comfortable, as instructed by Sergey Sobyanin within the framework of the transport development strategy until 2030,” noted the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry issues.
Changes also affected the intersection of Balaklavsky Prospekt and Chertanovskaya Street. After the overpass above Proletarsky Prospekt was opened on Kantemirovskaya Street, the load on this intersection increased noticeably, especially when traveling eastward.
To improve the traffic situation, a third shared lane was arranged on both sides of the intersection: one before the stop line, the second after the crossing. In addition, one of the U-turns was moved closer to the intersection and made traffic-light controlled, while the other was relocated further away from it. According to the specialists of TsODD, such adjustments will allow several thousand drivers to save five to seven minutes daily during peak hours.
Another improvement affected the pedestrian infrastructure. Previously, on Balaklavsky Prospekt near building 48, block 1, there was no regulated crossing, and the nearest one was about 150 meters away. As part of the beautification, a new regulated crossing and a city transport stop heading towards Chertanovskaya Street were equipped near the building. Thanks to this, the pedestrian route became shorter and safer.
