On September 8, 2026, the Bank of Russia issues into circulation a commemorative silver coin with a face value of 2 rubles “Sculptor S.D. Erzia, on the 150th anniversary of his birth” from the series “Outstanding Figures of Russia” (catalog number 5110-0200).

Stepan Erzia (Nefedov) is an outstanding Russian sculptor. He was born in 1876 into a peasant family that originates from the Erzya ethnic group within the Mordvin peoples. With his pseudonym, the master emphasized the importance of his native roots to him.

The sculptor’s works were successfully exhibited in Italy and France, where he was called the “Russian Rodin.” A special creative period of over 20 years was associated with Argentina, where he worked with unique hard South American wood species. Stepan Erzia returned to his homeland in 1951 with a large collection of his works, part of which he donated to the state.

The silver coin with a denomination of 2 rubles (precious metal weight in purity – 15.55 g, alloy fineness – 925) is in the shape of a circle with a diameter of 33.0 mm.

There is a raised rim along the circumference on both the obverse and reverse sides of the coin.

The obverse side of the coin features a relief image of the State Emblem of the Russian Federation, with inscriptions: “RUSSIAN FEDERATION”, “BANK OF RUSSIA”, the coin denomination “2 RUBLES”, the year of issue “2026”, the designation of the metal according to D.I. Mendeleev’s Periodic Table of Elements, the alloy fineness, the trademark of the Moscow Mint, and the mass of precious metal in pure form.

On the reverse side of the coin, on a relief field shaped like a tree cross-section, there is a contour self-portrait of the sculptor, combined with his facsimile signature; to the left, in two lines, are the sculptor’s life years executed in relief: “1876” and “1959”.

The edge of the coin is reeded.

The coin is made in ‘proof’ quality.

The coin mintage is 3,000 pieces.

The issued coin is legal tender in the territory of the Russian Federation and must be accepted at face value for all types of payments without restrictions.
