The updated Leningradsky Station operates a biodynamic lighting system. It automatically changes the color temperature of the light throughout the day, bringing the artificial lighting inside the building closer to the natural daily cycle.

“By the order of Sergey Sobyanin, during the renovation of Leningradsky Station, we applied the most modern engineering solutions. One of them is biodynamic lighting, which changes depending on the time of day: cold light operates during the daytime, and warm light in the evening. This approach allows us to create a maximally comfortable environment at the station,” said the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry.

Maksim Liksutov.

The system operates based on a pre-set scenario that takes into account the actual times of sunrise and sunset in the capital. The program includes astronomical data for each day of the year. Thanks to this, the start time and duration of the transitions change along with the course of the daylight hours. The installation and connection of the lighting systems were carried out by specialists from JSC “Mosinzhproekt” during the station’s renovation.

After sunrise, the color temperature gradually increases. During daytime hours, it reaches about six thousand kelvins. This is a cool white light, which makes the space feel brighter and more dynamic. Such lighting helps to maintain passengers’ concentration.

After sunset, the system initiates the reverse scenario. The color temperature gradually decreases, with cold white light replaced by warmer tones. As a result, the station space visually becomes softer and calmer in the evening. At the same time, the mode transitions occur smoothly.

Since the sunrise and sunset times in Moscow constantly change, the system’s operation is also adjusted. For example, in summer, the cold daytime mode runs longer, and the transition to warm lighting begins later. In the autumn-winter period, when the daylight shortens, the system switches to the evening scenario earlier.

The work of the biodynamic lighting is provided by a domestic engineering system. A single complex unites 1,094 luminaires, 23 controllers, and seven control cabinets. The controllers manage the luminaires according to the embedded scenario, and the system automatically determines the required mode based on the time of day and date.

Leningradsky railway station was opened in May 2026 after renovation carried out jointly with the Moscow City Urban Policy and Construction Complex.
