On September 5, large-scale sporting events took place in the capital, bringing together tens of thousands of participants. Fans of an active lifestyle were awaited at the Luzhniki Olympic Complex, where the “Moscow Sports Day” festival was held. In the central streets of the capital, the “Moscow Sports Night” festival was held, with its program supplemented by activities in museums and other cultural spaces.

Events organized the metropolitan Department of Sports as part of the “Summer in Moscow” project.

The “Moscow Sports Day” program covered dozens of areas—from fitness to extreme disciplines. One of the novelties was training in kangoo jumping: participants mastered jumps in special spring-loaded boots. Sessions in cycling, step aerobics, and breakdance also aroused great interest.

Professional and amateur competitions took place throughout the day at the Luzhniki venues. Visitors could watch the Russian BMX freestyle championship, try their hand at panna football, rope skipping, and parkour tag, as well as many other disciplines. For fans of intellectual sports, a simultaneous chess game session was organized with Grandmaster Sergey Karjakin.

At the “Superninja” venue, young athletes aged nine to 14 competed for a chance to become heroes of the new season of the popular TV show. Children could also visit areas with laser tag, gaming excavators, and race on balance bikes.

The highlight of the celebration was the meetings with sports and show business stars. In the fan zone, figure skater Evgeni Plushenko, footballers Rivaldo and Kevin Kuranyi, as well as gymnast Kirill Belsky interacted with fans. The festival concluded with a concert featuring Polina Gagarina, Sergey Lazarev, and Mari Kraimbrery.

The baton was picked up from Luzhniki by venues in the city center, where the “Night of Moscow Sports” took place from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. One of the main features this year was training sessions in unusual places. For the first time, sports activities were held in museum halls and other cultural spaces. Each venue had its own program. For example, the Muzeon Arts Park became a magnet for extreme sports enthusiasts. Here, master classes on hydroflight, workout, and parkour were organized. On the water, there were races with SUP boards and canoes. In addition, fans had the opportunity to meet their idols — Rivaldo, Kevin Kuranyi, and Sergey Gorelik.

For one evening, Arbat turned into the epicenter of street culture. Guests could watch performances by athletes on the skate ramp and dance, as well as try their hand at strength challenges, arm wrestling, and board games.

At Kudrinskaya Square, an obstacle course called “Superninja” was set up, long jump competitions were held, and mini-trampolines were installed. Klimentovsky Lane became a place for intense cardio workouts and fitness for several hours — hammock classes and cycling sessions took place here to the music of DJs. In Leontyevsky Lane, representatives of the basketball community held amateur tournaments, and near the metro stations “Rimskaya,” “Tretyakovskaya,” and “Barrikadnaya,” visitors could try their hand at the dynamic sport of padel.

Traditionally, for intellectuals and lovers of a quiet rest, the venues of the “Chess Square” festival operated near the Metropol Hotel, in Samotechny Square, and at the Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve.

“Summer in Moscow” — the main event of the season, which has already become a good tradition and an integral part of the capital’s life. The main theme this year is “Time to be together.” The project unites people of different generations around common values, allowing them to become closer not only to their relatives but also to the whole city during walks, cultural and sports events, charitable activities, as well as right near their home in all districts of the capital.
