On September 6, Russia celebrates Oil and Gas Industry Workers’ Day. Sergey Sobyanin spoke about this in his blog, emphasizing the importance of this industry for the capital.
“ Moscow itself has no oil or gas. The nearest fields are hundreds of kilometers from the capital. But it does have its own Moscow oil refinery, which, thanks to many years of reconstruction, has become one of the cleanest and most modern in Russia,” noted the Mayor of Moscow.
In addition, the main industry university—the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas—is located in the capital, as well as numerous research institutes. The headquarters of many of the largest oil and gas companies are also based in Moscow.
“Therefore, the holiday of oil and gas workers is also our Moscow holiday. I myself know firsthand what a difficult and responsible job this is. And under current conditions, it is also work associated with a constant threat. Oil and gas workers are literally on the front line,” emphasized the Mayor of Moscow.

The Mayor of Moscow congratulated the city’s gas and oil workers on their holiday, and also thanked them for their courage, resilience, and professionalism, thanks to which the country’s industry steadfastly weathers the storm.
