During the visit, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak participated in the awarding ceremony for workers of the oil and gas complex of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, timed to coincide with Oil and Gas Industry Workers’ Day.

The Deputy Prime Minister also held a working meeting with the governor of YNAO, Dmitry Artyukhov.

The parties discussed the socio-economic development of the region, the implementation of measures to increase its investment attractiveness in the district, as well as the progress of the program for the development of hard-to-recover hydrocarbon reserves (HRR) in the Nadym-Pur-Taz region – a corresponding directive to the Government of Russia together with the executive authorities of the district was given by the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin. The program involves tax incentives and the introduction of new extraction technologies for gas-bearing deposits of the Achimov, Jurassic, Turonian, and Berezov suites, where the main part of the country’s hard-to-recover gas reserves is concentrated.

There were also discussions on the development of new deposits discovered in the region: the Alexey Kontorovich oil field in southern Yamal with reserves of 55 million tons of oil, and the N.I. Grigoryev gas condensate field in the Nadym district with gas reserves of 50.2 billion cubic meters.

“Yamal has been and remains a global center of gas production: our gas reserves will last for at least a hundred years, and industrial reserves exceed 43 trillion cubic meters – this volume would be enough to continuously supply all of Moscow with gas for two thousand years. Ahead lies a large scope of tasks: production on the shelf, development of the Nadym-Pur-Taz region, work on recently discovered fields, as well as on the Kharsaveyskoye field preparing for launch, and development of data centers. All these successes ultimately serve the main goal – the prosperity of the northerners: it is precisely the stable income from the fuel and energy complex that allows us to build housing, social facilities, roads, and improve the quality of life for Yamal residents,” said the governor of Yamal, Dmitry Artyukhov.

Today, Yamal accounts for about 80% of the total natural gas production in the country, and the heat and energy of Yamal gas are used daily by three out of four Russians. Despite sanction pressures, the region has retained the potential to increase production: the largest field development projects, including the Severo-Tambeyskoye and Zapadno-Tambeyskoye, have entered an active phase. The region provides two-thirds of the freight traffic of the Northern Sea Route – 79% by the end of 2025. The district ranks among the top five federal subjects of the Russian Federation in terms of gross regional product, and among the top three in the country in GRP per capita. Since 2021, the annual volume of investments has exceeded 1 trillion rubles, which secures Yamal’s leading position in the country by this indicator per capita, and by the end of 2025 the district took 12th place in the national investment attractiveness rating by ASI. Stable economic indicators directly reflect in the social sphere: according to the quality of life study conducted by ASI in 2025, Yamal entered the top 25 regions of Russia, taking 11th place.

Special attention was given to the fuel supply of the entity. The current fuel stocks, the condition of the logistics infrastructure and its operation, and the measures taken to balance the domestic fuel market were reviewed.
